Doomsday nutters anyone?

My mother is a doomsday nutter. She strongly believes the world is going to end in 2012. She has already bought bottled water and canned soup.

I told my sister that my mother believes this, and now my mother called me a "knob" for telling her as she will be worried about her kids now...

I must have been adopted. At least I hope I was.

I'm sure this bottled water and canned food will be very useful when she's floating around in space amongst the dust and debris of our destroyed planet. ;)

Have just found this video.... I dont think people who take this stuff seriously should be allowed to view this...

By the way thats a good idea, I would be very greatful of the anti biotics once I kill him.... lol

I dont understand why people give all their stuff and houses away before these events happen. I was watching a program on telly about a family who gave their farm away before the supposed rapture. Now they are left looking stupid and homeless.

Could be a good time to cash in on some freebies from Numpties.

coulda sworn someone else posted this a couple of weeks ago

Yeah this thread has been done a few times. As I wrote 2 weeks ago, and I will repeat it:

Nothing as such will happen in Dec 2012, but I'm sure there'll be some light entertainment to be had on sites like B3ta and ED at the expense of those who really thought it was going to happen.

It's ok. When the end of the world does come, i got a 24/7 tescos just around the corner from me.

I have a pub, and a little Jack Russell that I am training to not run away, so she can be my companion when we are the only ones left behind. I have a secret tablet which I have been working on, for when she gets bitten by the vampire dogs.

I'm sure Will Smith will still be alive to keep us safe.

I wish I was... This guy has everything and I mean everything, our mutual friend even informed me he is purchasing or trying to purchase anti-biotics as they will be an extremley valuable currency when it eventually happens

LOL.

What a thoughtful friend you have, stockpiling antibiotics so if there was an apocalypse he can make money off people when everyone is presumably dead.

So do any of you guys know any doomsday survival nutters or are any of you taking sensible precautions for any eventuality?
:p
There is nothing wrong with taking sensible precautions in case of disaster. Its just most people are too stupid to do it and make fun of those that do.

The real nutters are the ones who don't have an emergency kit. Don't have photocopies of impotent paperwork, passport and change of cloths in a bag that can be picked up in an emergency, don't have any emergency supplies. They are worse than the doomsday nutters by far.

I think this says it best:

Despite the publicity generated by the 2012 date, Susan Milbrath, curator of Latin American Art and Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History, stated that "We have no record or knowledge that [the Maya] would think the world would come to an end" in 2012. "For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle," says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies in Crystal River, Florida. To render December 21, 2012, as a doomsday event or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in. "There will be another cycle," says E. Wyllys Andrews V, director of the Tulane University Middle American Research Institute (MARI). "We know the Maya thought there was one before this, and that implies they were comfortable with the idea of another one after this."

i've got a smartphone for that.. can't wait till and app is released so i can defend my self from this :O

Anti-biotics have a fairly short shelf life. They won't be valuable for very long.

If the world is going to end, what exactly is buying all that survival gear going to accomplish? Unless he knows a shop that stocks intersteller space craft, I dont see the point.

Thankfully I dont know of any people around my area like that.

This TBH. I know of someone I went to school with who is a bit like that & I have no doubt he's doing the same right now.

I'd have great pleasure in winding him up, I'd start by buying him a copy of this :D

We have an evacuation kit and about a weeks worth of various supplies, medical stuff etc, but that's because of the chance of forest fires/earthquakes as opposed to the world ending :p
