Airfix

I only browsed through this thread a few weeks ago thinking I might pick up a small model and have a go again, and then I got a 1:32 Aston Martin DBR9 for Christmas :)

Let the loosing of small parts in the carpet and swearing at trying to place tiny decals commence :)

As an acrylic only user, I'm always going to give you a biased reply, however enamels do give a much harder wearing finish, if you can put up with the smell and clean-up ;)

I made the switch to Acrylics earlier this year and i wouldnt go back to using Enamels full time now, they can be messy and hard to clean up, cleaning the brushes stinks, the only enamels i use now are Silver/Steel, bronze and gold colours as they seem to give a better metallic finish to me.Oh and i use the Revell Aqua Acyrlics and i love them, BUT only buy the matt version in the Aqua's the silk matts dont brush very well at all.

Where do you guys get your paints from? There is only a hobbycraft near me now since all the local hobby shops shut down :(
 
Anyone know any good model shops within 10 miles of Lichfield that carry good stocks? I've the urge to go purchase a nice EE Lightning or HMS Hood, I feel the need!

Not sure about the Hood as maritime isn't my thing, with regards to the English Electric beasty you will need to wait a while for Airfix to re-release their excellent 1/48 kit ( will be happening shortly) as they discontinued it a few years ago and they shot up in value, fortunately they did the decent thing and put it back into production recently. The other option is the slightly innacurate 1/32 Trumpeter kit, expensive, but big and impressive when built up.
 
I use Hannants a lot, along with The aviation hobby shop in Uxbridge. TAHS comes in handy a lot of times as I can pick up gear after work
 
Im quite lucky as ive got a Local model shop just 10 mins walk from my house lol - Jack of all trades, R/C cars,planes,boats etc, trains, plastic and diecast kits, diecast model cars etc the list goes on. Been using them for almost 15 years and i get a nice discount :)

On a side note to that, earlier in this thread Agnes (i think) wanted a Ducati, well i bought a 916 to build after seeing it, My first ever bike build, usually a military type person or road cars.
Got the collection out this morning, so ill take some pics of them.
 
i went into the model shop today and purchased the airfix bbmf set and started fettling the spitfire but i have ran out of sanpaper :( , and its too windy to prime with rattle cans
 
I got a Sea Harrier kit a few months ago. It's currently sat on the shelf under my computer desk.
Might give it a go when the Christmas tree is down and I've got a bit of room to work.

Haven't built a model in about 20 years!
 
Made a fair bit of progress with the tamiya Spitfire IX, got iyt painted, decalled, and now in the process of washng it. Heres a pic with the wash applied and waiting for it to dry.

looking good did you just wash it for the panel lines etc to show up ? , I am having a nightmare atm with my Airfix spitfire panel's having massive gaps and ill fitting parts

Well generally washing will not only pick out the panel lines but it'll darken and stain the paintwork and add tonal changes to it and add a bit of definition as it were.
