Steam Christmas Sale 2011

Why would you leave it all til the last day anyway? What would that have achieved? Why not just craft it every time you had 7?

This is a statement iced with the benifit of hidsight. With no knowledge that the last day wouldn't give anything other than Valve vouchers, saving all your coal up and crafting it at the last minute was a perfectly fine tactic.

Actually, maybe thats what Valves decision is about. They have seen there are eleventy billion coals sat in peoples inventory and realised they would be dumping thousands of vouchers if everyone crafted them, so stopped it?

However, you still have 3 months to trade the vouchers about. Nobody in the world should be buying a Valve game at full price for the next 3 months.

Maybe if there was something to be gained from it, but even without the benefit of hindsight and the knowledge it's only Valve stuff left, saving it all til the last day was pointless in that there was no benefit to doing so, I don't understand why you wouldn't just craft it as and when you got it really?

I can see it if you've taken all sale to save up 7 but when you have 39, there was clearly opportunity to have crafted several times during the sale.

(That said, given the fact it was stated as 'over 3,000,000 prizes', it was always implied there was a finite quantity of prizes, in which case claiming earlier was always a more sensible option)

Why not? I could have crafted them when I recieved it, but given that there was no mentioned downside to crafting them all at the end, I wanted to do it all at once to see a) How much coal I could collect and b) so I could see all the coal won prizes together.

Reading back through this thread, I now see that there were only Valve coupons available. Had I known this, I wouldn't have crafted and then raged about it. Unfortunately, I didn't think to check the Steam forum for Valve posts, and I didn't go via the gift pile page on the website where the warning was. I came back from work, opened up steam and went straight into my inventory to craft, not realising I couldn't win other games >_>

I have 50% of valve, 25% of any square enix, eidos interactive and holiday pack of half life 2 and half life 2: lost coast if anyone wants to trade for half life 2: episode 1 and/or 2 or left 4 dead 2 possibly?

At work so can't view Steam,(apart from when the kettle boils:p) so would appreciate it if someone could post up the main deals after they've come up. Cheers.

I'm glad Serious Sam 3 is back up, also tempted by Batman as I missed that, ah choices :D. Now time to buy the games that didn't go on the daily deals, overall I'm happy :).

Just the encore sales for the final day then.

What a meh sale overall, I have hardly bought anything and can't remember a Steam sale where there's been so little to tempt me.

In fact EA had a much better sale this year with their Advent thing.

Oh Steam you tease. Putting a pic of Assassin's Creed: Revelations the front page with a -50% off price of £14.99 only to find it's the same -25% off I passed on earlier in the sale.
