For anyone who doubts the Crysis Engine.

Am I the only person who thinks designing games with graphics that 99% of people cant display is kinda pointless?

Gameplay > Graphics, every day.

The thing is most people CAN run stuff like this. Like I said, it's just really realistic lighting effects, and improving lighting effects in games doesn't really lead to much performance loss.

There's a reason why most games don't look like Doom now-a-days. People want it to be visually appealing, as well as having good gameplay.

It doesn't even run smooth in their own video, it looks like it's been sped up 3-4x there so I wonder how it would run on an average system that hasn't been designed to show off the game

Im not overly impressed to be honest, it looks OK but thats it.

Agreed, it does look good, but not amazing. YOu'd think in such a capable engine, circles would actually be circular and not some 15 sided thing (look at the ceiling near the start and also the light shades etc).

Can't wait till people start using the unlimited detail engine, where objects are rendered with dots in 3D space rather than polys
