HD7950 Delayed to February

It's not really a delay.

All they've done is pushed the the date back to when the cards will be available so it's a real launch instead of a paper launch.

Well there will probably be way to much demand for the 7979, even with it's high price so they will want to sell every chip they possibly can at the higher premium until production is ramped up to the point where they have more chips than they can sell in the form of a 7970. A consequence of this could be that once the 7950 does launch it will be purely failed 7970 spec so the chances of successful unlocks and overclocking could be poor initially.

They could also be doing this so as to not interfere with existing stocks of 6950/6970 which still seem to be in plentiful supply looking at online retailers and amazingly still holding their price.

Or Fud should be ignored and real AMD sources were saying well over a month ago that the 7950 was due a month after the 7970.

Delay? No, random sites making up date for a 7950, then announcing the real date + sayings it's delayed.

its like me today putting up a story that Ivy will launch in Feb the 15th, and in 2 weeks posting a new story saying its been delayed till April the 8th, thing is, the date was April the 8th the whole time.

It's unsurprising, if not particularly useful that AMD wanted to "launch" the 7970 in 2011 seeing as they said they would, nor that they want to "launch" the 7950 at CES because, well what do we know about the 7950? They will be available at launch with custom pcb's and coolers from AIB's, what is CES, a trade show, what do AIB's do at trade shows, show off their custom cards with custom cooling, the 7970's all the AIB's will be showing at CES will all look identical but for a different sticker on the shroud.

By "launching" the 7950 on the eve of CES it means all the AIB's can show off their cards .

I've never known why paper launches are bad. The more information I have the sooner, the better, how could it be worse to know what performance the 7950 has a month before release, rather than on release, how does that make it bad? if you decide the 7950 is worth the wait, it saves you wasting money on something you'll regret, if you decide the 7950 isn't for you, then you've saved a month and can go buy what you want now.

They do this all the time, the strategy is that most people will cave in and buy a premium 7970 rather than be patient, wait a month and buy the much better value 7950.

Easy to explain, 7950 3GB will turn out to be the second fastest card on the market that can clock past the stock 7970's speeds and be the most value for money on the enthusiast market.
