Something very odd going on with my Origin account at the moment. Tried to log in Saturday morning only to be told my password was incorrect (even though its the same password I've always had) then went through the password reset process only to be told

"sorry our validation servers our down. You are being logged in in offline mode"

for the whole of the last 3 days.

I got that message once, but it still let me play online. I know it was down last night too. Try still using battlelog to get on, might just be a glitch.

PC is as per sig I have a 30" screen running with 4Ghz I7 920 with 2x 3Gb 580 Geforce cards I do always use the map large and zoom out too..:o

Yes, open settings and look for the network interpolation slider.

With a 30" screen you should have an automatic advantage over other players, but you probably don't won't to hear that. Although it's a waste you could also try setting all the graphic options to low (the eye candy sometimes get in the way of your the enemy).
 
Had some troubles with origin going offline myself yesterday Bunny.


Can anyone shed some light on this for me please:

So I appear to have IR Flares and Heat seekers unlocked unyet pressing X doesn't do anything. It works in Heli's but not the jets.

Likewise heat seekers work for me in helis but I'm unable to select them in the Jets.
Am I missing something or doing something stupid??

Did you make sure you equipped them in the customisation menu? I know I've done that before, took me ages to remember why my MBT zoom optics weren't working...!

That would be it then!

I didn't equip the machine gun for the tank or the flares/missiles for the heli's and they just worked do didn't realise I had to do that.

That was an awesome round, for which I claim partial credit for the success too (I'm there, WillGilbert), joined in the last 10 minutes, probably like you with both platform and ticket office capped but losing on points badly.

I kept sneaking through to Cafe and taking them out from behind, hence the nice K/D ratio :)

Got myself into a position where I was capping and shooting them all in the backs muahahahaha!

Yeah, sometimes the game seems a bit funny about what gets equipped automatically and what doesn't. Like I said I forgot to equip my zoom optics for ages, but when I had to reformat my machine and reinstall BF3 I apparently lost all of my customisations and the game seemed to equip stuff at random. At other times when I've got the first unlock for a gun I've had to equip it manually. I'm not entirely sure how DICE have set it up.

Aim for the head unless you're going for a long distance runner. Then aim for the head for your second hit.

When you're trying to get another sniper, never pop your head out in the same place twice, shoot then move to a few metres where you should be able to headshot them whilst they sit there looking for you in your old spot.

I try to always stick to the same gun/scope combination too, bullet drop and speed is different for all the guns, so eventually you'll get used to seeing someone in your crosshairs and where to aim for a kill.

Also, on smaller maps like Grand Bazaar, Metro, Damavand, Seine and Canals try and use a 4x or 3.4x scope, you'll have no "look at me" glint and will be able to countersnipe like never before.

So, to sum up my rambling, get used to your gun and scope and move for multiple shots on the same target.

Definitely this. I was playing a round on Gulf of Oman where there was a squad of snipers on one of the cranes. Once I had my eye into the range headshotting the one guy I had a clear view of was easy enough. I hung around to see of there was anyone else I could get, and the same guy spawns on his mates and plonks himself down in exactly the spot where I'd just killed him. I think I started racking up Nemesis bonuses before he got the message.

Moving between shots also gives you a moment to check what's going on around you instead of your target. You'd be surprised how many people listen out for snipers because they're easy knife kills if they're too busy looking down their scope.

Is there some page that details the specifications of each rifle? I'd like to know if the better stats makes up for the lower ammo count.

This. I've lost count of the number of snipers I've knived because I've heard them take a shot close by. Or been killed by then made it my misson to track down and knife :D

I spend a lot of my time doing this on Kharg Island, it's practically guaranteed that *someone* will be camping in the hills.

The SKS is a beast! Probably the best 500 recon skills I've had so far.

Last night there were 3 snipers in one spot, practically on top of each other.. Made it mission to get them all, so drove at them with a tank and *splat* :cool:
