Scariest Game you have ever played?

Metro 2033 makes me jumpy in places, the environments are extremely atmospheric. I've just reached a mine section which reminds me of the time I went exploring local slate mines, the creepiest places I've ever been in.

Got Amnesia in the steam deals, played a couple of hours and scared to play again. Hopefully gonna finish it though. I'm playing it in the dark with headphones to get the best out of it.

Fatal Frame made me chud myself a few times but never completed it.

See, that's why I can't play it. I do what you do because that's what the developers specifically asked us to do. If I played it during the day and using speakers instead I'd probably be able to get through it, but I don't want to do it that way.

I think this thread has established that Amnesia is the scariest game of all time. I'm relieved to see so many others saying they can't play it either!

Bought Dead Space 1 & 2 in steam sales, thought they would be scary to play but they weren't really. Great story though and quite fun to play, its like doom meets the films Alien and Sunshine.

I have the dead space 1 bug where the doorway is open but you can't move through it :)

Very annoying

I kept bricking it while playing Amnesia using speakers in the daytime with the sun shining outside. Think I'd have wet myself in the dark with earphones on but been too afraid to move anywhere to tidy up afterwards.

lol at everyone saying Resident Evil. I was playing that when I was like 9 or 10 and it never scared me at all. Go and play some Amnesia instead.

Personally System Shock Enhanced was the first truly scary game I ever played. In my early teens, late at night, lights off, sound up with headphones. Have experienced nothing like it since.

Picked it up from a car boot sale some years after it originally came out… 1997 I think. Everyone was talking about Doom and although System Shock enjoyed positive reviews it lacked the publicity and praise it really deserved. Sadly it doesn’t have the same effect on me now but I’ll never forget my first play through!

System Shock 2 doesn't scare me. But I do find it creepy and very atmospheric. Need to try this Amnesia: The Dark Descent game everyone has been talking about!

Minecraft...

... when I'm building my house at night in the dark and all of a sudden a creeper explodes, it scares the living hell out of me and I jump out of my skin. I can't be the only one right?

Even then, Resident Evil still isn't scary. It has things like the dogs through the windows that make you jump in the same way somebody shouts 'boo!' at you from behind. That isn't scary at all :|

Depends on your interpretation of the word scary, people who get frights or shocks find that scary. Others prefer the term to be used in conjunction with suspense.

Amnesia is the scariest game in my opinion but Resident Evil 1/2 had some great moments of suspense. The remake of 1 did it much much better though.
