RC Helicopters

My S107 fell from grace this evening and snapped off the tail fin thing. The bottom piece in this picture:

Ahh well, it still flies fine. Currently the piece is in a "helping hand magnifying glass with clips thing" being glued back together. I don't hold out much hope, the glue Ive used appears to be rubbish!

snapped mine off ages ago. Has no effect from what I can tell. You can actually buy a replacement but I've never bothered.

Anyone here fly them?

Looking to get cheapish one, or maybe buy a more expensive one a few parts at a time.

Would like to fly outside , anyone recommend good sites to look at etc?

Cheers

I've got a cheap one (£20) that I bought a few months ago, was loads of fun for the first week, however it lost its appeal and is now just say in my wardrobe

yea mine snapped on the first day its just for show on a heli like this as its so docile its not needed, the only part ive found to effect performance are the connect buckles on the rotor head its like a little o-o shaped peice of plastic that stabilises the flybar, one of mine is missing and now the heli slights pulls to one side when hovering but its perfectly flyable, i tried taking the other off thinking maybe they arent needed but it caused horrible vibration.

my front motor which controls the lower main blades has stopped working :( , just ordered a spare from ebay for £4 quid and bought a buckle set for £1.99 while i was at it.

the thing has survived about 100 crashes to i cant complain and my son loves it so ill get it repaired for him.

i keep looking at the proper hobby grab RC helis and they temp me so much :(

i wanted a walkera120d02s
but none sells them in this country :(
they seem awesome value for what you get aswell.

i guess the only other choice is the mcp x
but they dont seem to be as good value for money as the walkera :( and cost the same price, i guess your paying for the e-flite blade brand name

i know its better to learn with the bigger helis like 450 size etc but i wouldnt want to fly one in/near a park (you have to get permission from the land owner aswell) , i was looking into maybe flying on the newcastle town moor which is like 1 square mile or so in size but the "freemen" douche bags seem to pretty much own the land and decide what is allowed to happen on the moor..... an RC club has exclusive flying rights and i dont fancy joining a club

I have already said this but I think it needs stating again.

If you buy a coaxial heli, that is one with 2 sets of blades, counter rotating they are very easy for a beginner to fly, they hover no problem and you'll be whizzing round the room easily and they take a crash quite well.

If you buy a proper 4/5/6 channel heli like the walkera, fixed or collective pitch you can fly them outside and do crazy stuff like in these videos but they are VERY hard to learn with. If you havnt flown before it'll take you a week just to get it off the ground and when you crash they usually break.

i know :P but i doubt i would have problems getting one to hover and correcting it to keep it in the air which would keep me happy, i understand its an uber slow learning process and i wouldnt want to be trying fancy 3d stuff anyway i just like the thought of owning one thats 3d capable

ive played a lot of flight sims so i understand how helicopters behave and respond to controls which i reckon would give me an edge over someone that has never flown any rc/sim before

the walkera is suposed to be really stable anyway and easier to keep in the air than say a 120 sr or a honey bee v2 thanks to its 3 axis gyro

Yeh thats what I thought ;)

I flew a coax one for about 3 months and decided to step up to a Walkera 4g6s, 3 axis gyro, collective pitch (same as the buzzfly 3ds). Ive had it a year now, try to fly everyday, it took me 2 weeks to be able to hover for the full 5 minutes. 2/3 months to be able to hover side on and about 5/6 months to fly nose in and generally whiz it round the garden. I have broken about 40 sets of blades and replaced nearly every part of the heli, maybe £200 in parts and blades.

if you never flew 4ch single rotor blade helicopter, you will having major problem with mcpX. even myself i'm struggle to hover my mcpX for more than 5 seconds. mcpX arent a beginner/trainer heli due non-flybar and collective pitch.

i also got Blade 120SR, i find it far more stable and more fun whilst learning how to control heli.

if you want to start flying a proper 4ch heli, i recommend heliguy atom, they are cheap and easy for starter (still much harder than 3ch coaixl helis), plenty of spares. you WILL crash and damage parts. full stop lol i snapped off my mcpX tail boom after the very first 10 seconds of take off. FFS! i got the tail boom replaced at the other day. i wouldnt dare to fly it again till i'm fully confident with heliguy atom and blade 120SR.

Does anybody else s107g drift backwards slightly when hovering?

its probably not balance properly, look down the top and in the very front is the battery nice and straight? maybe take the plastic cover off and make sure the battery is seated properly, mine was at a slight sideways angle and made the heli hover to the side, maybe yours needs moving forward a few milimetres

I want to leap right in lol !
I think I will just order a honey bee v2 seeing as they are so cheap, Theres a decent begginers guide on youtube for them aswell

yep honeybee v2 is perfect for beginner as it's bigger so it'll fly better outside. make sure you get training kit with it.

phoenix sim with dx6i is a must as well.

Dude that dx6i and phoenix is like twice the cost of the honeybee (honeybee comes with everything ready to fly)

I think I'd give the dx6i and sim a miss for a while till I knew it is what I wanted. Can pick up the honeybee for £89

then you'll crash everytime you lift off lol

even every experts on RC forums recommend phoenix sim, you dont have to get dx6i but they are very good and can save monies in long run as they can be programmed to fly others helis when you buy another or upgrade to bigger helis.

phoenix sim has saved me lots of money on blade 120SR. i havent crashed it yet.

Honeybee comes with transmitter and usb cable in the box, Also comes with a sim if you want to use that... or you could get the phoenix sim.

It's the Dx6i that I think is over kill for someone just starting out with a honeybee, It costs a fortune and has a multitude of options on it not needed at a guess for someone just getting into it.

If they then decide they want to pick this up as a proper hobby then yeah. But I'd not be recommending someone spanks £100+ on it before they have even flown.

good point, however, phoenix sim wont work with tx came with honeybee v2.

you'll get esky's sim software with honeybee but not good as phoenix. like you said may be too expensive for first timer.

And then crash it in the first 10 second, spend money on the repairs.
Crash in 5 seconds this time as you didn't quite set it up correctly.
More money on repairs.
Fly for a good 30 seconds, into the nearest fence.
Throw it in the bin and move on to something else.

The sim is very worthwhile. and the dx6i will allow you to buy a bigger spektrum model compatible and fly.
