Why does it seem a lot of entrepreuners come for a lower class backgrounds e.g. Sir Alan Sugar, Richard Branson. Why can't we all find this drive to get rich or kill ourselves trying?

They take risks.

So many 'smart' people waste their lives doing something difficult and skilled for relatively low pay because it's easier to apply for a job than to form an idea and take it places.

I'm never going to own a jumbo jet in my line of work so I guess I'm including myself. I'm scared to take big risks too when it's easy to be comfortable and mooch along.

You don't have to come from a lower class background to be a good entrepreneur, you just need to have the entrepreneurial spirit and the right attitude. Peter Jones didn't come from a lower class background, as with many other successful businessmen.

Exactly, it's just that those that succeed from poorer backgrounds are put on pedestals. How many can people really think of that came from poorer backgrounds? I challenge the OP to look at the backgrounds of the CEOs of successful companies.

Although I have no statistics to back this up, might I suggest that those from poorer backgrounds by necessity have to begin businesses from scratch and hence are the ones that people admire most and so are spoken about the most.

Indeed, however I'd also agree with what someone said earlier in the thread about taking risks. If I was to inherit £100k I would be less likely to throw it into a risky business, whereas if I earned/created it myself I'd feel more empowered to do so.

Yeah looks like I made some errors lol. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all had that drive and determination.

What was so low class about Richard Branson?

He owned a record shop and gradually moved up in the world.

You can't start rich and get rich.

No it really wouldn't. Not everyone can be that kind of success, that's just not how the world works. It's that kind of expectation that has caused more people than ever to go to university just because they can, rather than because they should.

I'd love to get together with a few like minded entrepreneurs on these forums. Even if it was just banter and to ask, and have answered, some questions.

I often think that the calibre of many on here would be condusive to some great endeavours.

there's a few on here. I started my own business, and really honestly think that I'm still in the 'winging it' phase. I don't have the foggiest idea how I manage to run it.

I know - I see them about occasionally. There's a thread on trading et al also which i nip into every now and again.

Will soon finish a project I have done v.well out of in april and am looking for my next thing. I'm thinking property perhaps but will consider anything really.

I've been looking at a few sites like: http://www.businesspartners.com/

Student lets, if you have cash, tbh! Sheffield ones rake it in, to a disgusting extent.

Have heard lettings is the place to be also!

Seriously - if you live in east london (or even london in general) and own your own house / rent a private flat you need to consider renting out during the olympics - thousands...per week. I was shocked. short term leases only but thats a good thing if it's your main home.

case in point: http://www.foxtons.co.uk/search?property_id=797974&search_form=map&search_type=EL&submit_type=search

1 bed flat in bloody hendon = £1000 per week
