500 quid for what?

Certainly not a massive boost in performance

Its a shame we are back to the old pricing ways of the £499 7900GTX days:mad:

If your preference was for AMD cards and you could now buy one that equaled or beat a 3GB GTX580 for the same price wouldn't you get one?

No.

The GTX 580 has been out for over a year...AMD are not much faster with this release TBH...Its certainly not worth £500 +

The aggressive pricing of the 6950 @ under £200 was great this card is just not worth the 300 more for the gain you get

Have you actually looked at the pricing? Only a few cards are over £500 and the OCUK Value card is £420, although OoS right now. I'd say £420 is a great price.

Having said that I'm more interested in the 7950.

That didn't answer my question. And they are just over £400 not £500+ they are the same price as 3GB GTX580's

What I meant is, that for people who prefer, or need AMD cards and wouldn't buy a GTX580 even if they had the money, this might be the very card for them seeing as it will cost the same as a 3GB GTX580

For the price/perf crowd, this isn't for them, they wouldn't even buy a GTX580 even if they prefered nvidia. For them the GTX560/570 or even the previous incarnation of 460/470 in SLi mode is more like their poison.

For you it may not be worth it, but plenty of people seem to be happy to spend 4-500 on a video card, look at all the 580/590/6990's that are sold before today at similar sorts of prices as these.

Seems silly that gfx card prices are becoming as much as a 27 inch good IPS panel near enough....i mean you can get a HP zr2740w for £569 which is the price of some 7970s!

The scaling of the prices on them compared to other pc components(discluding large ssds) is getting out of hand but we can't blame companies selling them at the prices since the manufacturing costs are probably high.

The £420 OcUK model is the right price and about the highest a gfx card should be really.

Dont care.

The card is overpriced.

If people are wanting to stay loyal to NV or AMD thats there problem not mine

The trouble is the 3GB GTX580 is a waste of money for the most part, most sane people will buy a 1.5GB model.

AMD should also have released a 1.5GB 7970 as a cheaper option for those who don't need ridiculous requirements (ie. 3 screens or higher than 1920*1200).

420 is a great price... Really?

I have saved to get 2 but just can't justify it right now.

My 2 unlocked 6950s are fine till these come down...

Or the 7950s come in at a more sensible price!

So do you think the same about the 3GB GTX580? OR the higher priced 1.5GB ones?

And unlocked overclocked 6950 @ £199 was nipping the heels of the GTX 580.

Yes the 580 is overpriced too.

In order for the 7970 to be worth 450 then it needs to destroy the GTX 580 which it just doesn't

Overclocked the card can beat out the GTX590.

So if you don't have the money then poor you, but it does not take away from those who can afford the best.

Fow what? A few more texture units?

It's 30% faster than the 580gtx, 50% faster than the 6970, and seemingly underclocked by almost 30% to stay under 300W safely in worst case scenario, ie furmark and maybe some gpgpu stuff in the future.

Why, because essentially every single review card hits the max, with ease, with fine temps and complete stability, thats 1125Mhz, not even close to every 6970 would hit the ccc limit, not a chance in hell.

The people who have put on the new bios pretty much all max out 1250Mhz, again, with fine temps, complete stability and on the stock cooler.

Every single generation before now, bar none, has had a 40-60% power increase per generation to go along with the 70-80% more performance.

The ONLY reason the card didn't spank the 580gtx officially, is power usage, the card can and will go 25% higher than the clocks in the review without issue. How far the cards will overclock with more voltage and better cooling is anyones guess, 1250Mhz on the stock cooler with barely a voltage increase, I'd be thinking 1350-1400Mhz on air cooling.

These cards are going to be VERY fast, they are very fast.

Think back to the 6990 release, remember when basically every single review went into length about the 400W capable cooler, the nice overclocking limits, the 2nd bios switch, etc, etc. It's essentially option 1, stock, for as low power as possible, and bios switch number 2, screw power, use the full speed of the card. That is what is happening here essentially, the card is severely underclocked at stock.

You'd have to be very odd to spend £500 and run one at stock, at £500 fully overclocked, it spanks a 580gtx, utterly and totally.

Yeah, I'd love one at £300, apparently that isn't going to happen, or not yet :(

Uses less power than a 580, is more powerful than a 580, the cheapest 7970 is cheaper than the cheapest 580 3gb.

The 7970 is the fastest single GPU around and is priced competitively with the 580.

Also, there's no proof the Kepler is going to be as amazing as the green team fanboys ramp it up to be ;)
