*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

01/10/12 they said, so either they got the times mixed up, or the dates mixed up, or they're just fickle :D

Yeah, it seems strange. This is what it says on the launcher anyway (for those people who can't be bothered to log out :p) -

Re. the texture issue, I don't think they've done anything with it on test (or live). They've removed the medium option and just put medium textures as high (as is the case in live atm) but I did see a post from Stephen Reid on the dev tracker where he said he was going to try and get a response from the devs about the problem, but that 'it would probably be tomorrow'.

In other words, I'm not expecting anything from him as it's clear they're trying to cover up the whole issue for some reason.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

Seemed odd that they are almost hiding this issue, I can't imagine it's that difficult to fix (as the textures are right in the dialogue sections - just not on high in the game).

But I don't see the need to put AA (which apparently has been fixed) on low quality textures - will make it look worse imho.

Hit 49 last night - will be nice to finish off my class quest.

On thing though, regarding a certain sith warrior companion

I've just hit 10,000 affection rating with Jeisa on my sith warrior - it seems I'm now married & going to try for children..., does this companion have no quests related to them specifically after obtaining them?

We have consistently crushed all comers in Open PvP, we not so hot in WZ but then often there is only 4 of us in.

We have now had maybe 18/20 large scale open world clashes, and we have won all taken a beaten here and there but after a regroup, bit of shouting (and thats just me) we gone back and seen them off.

Even when we been heavily outnumbered (i.e Hoth fight) we still beat them, and easily, in fact in the last Hoth fight which was guild V guild, they had about 5/6 more than us and we wiped them all without one death on our side!!
That's the DooM way, always outnumbered, never out gunned.

Thing is a bit of organization, and focused targeting is all you really need.

Well I've finally reached level 35, but now have lost interest in the game. The story line/voice overs are a nice addition but get annoying after the first 20 levels - it's just another way to give you the same quests any other MMO gives (go and kill X, Y times and go run to the other end of the map). Doesn't even feel like an MMO compared to other games.

Another gripe is the PvP - I play games for the PvP, but BW just haven't thought it through, even for a polished game I'm surprised they haven't learnt and implemented the best bits for PvP WZ and Open world (DAOC, WAR).

Classes are well unbalanced and have too much CC and the whole resolve bar is ridiculous and absolutely crap - by the time you have even go it to work, you are dead.

If nothing drastic changes before the first initial month of payment, I see this game just another one of those "MMOs" I tried and didn't like. :(

I do agree with your first paragraph but what else can they do? They need an mmo to take a long time to reach cap so they make more money i guess!

I must admit i skip most side story cutscenes now as its a different guy saying the same thing in a different way, but am enjoying the gameplay of the sith assassin

Id wait for a patch or 2 like you say and see what changes for you there

I'm starting to wonder about continuing my sub too. I KNOW it's not supposed to be a SWG successor in any way, but Tatooine really bought home just how limited the game is. "Turn back, exhaustion zone!" when trying to leave the outskirts of Anchorhead was just lame, and you can't help remembering the huge sprawling cities like Sunfall on SWG.

It was at this stage too that I realised how rubbish the crafting is - I'm crafting the exact same stuff I was when I started, except now it's Might Hilt 10 instead of 1.

The stories are keeping me interested for the moment, but I can't see it being a long term thing.

See I actually enjoyed the story line if I'm honest, I was hooked on it until I hit 50 then not so much. I didn't complete it and I still don't have my Darth title yet. I know what you're feeling about the MMO side of things, I get the same. On my way to 50, I had 10 PvP encounters, half were in the same map. And I don't think I actually saw more than 20 of my own side on the whole way to 50... It just felt very lonely, if it wasn't for team speak I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much.

I think the PvP is terrible in ways, there are a lot of issues the biggest one for me is all the bugs, I mean seriously there are so many little bugs that are so so frustrating, especially for my class game breaking.

The classes unbalanced I have mixed feelings about this, some classes feel OP but then at other times they don't. I agree some classes need a slight nerfing, but a lot of it is CD dependant.

Also I agree with you on the last part, I just don't feel this has anything special other than it being Starwars...

The thing I keep asking myself is, would this game of been a success if it wasn't Starwars.

Even by my above post I'm still enjoying it, I put this down to my friends but seriously pugs are depressing in PvP.

-edit-

@Sleepery - same boat, I've created a new char to see the story to keep me interested a bit, after I've done my dailies for PvP/Illum I just get bored...

Although some of the best fun I've had is stopping people doing the dailies on Illum, that causes so much rage.

I'm curious as to what you mean with this, how do they exactly make it feel like an MMO to be more like other MMO's?.

This I agree with - they do need to expand the PVP - I'd like a set area on every single planet with open PVP (with objectives) - similar to warhammer online - but remember WAR & DOAC were both PVP based mmo's - this one was never sold as a PVP MMO's - it's a story based MMO.

Classes are well unbalanced and have too much CC and the whole resolve bar is ridiculous and absolutely crap - by the time you have even go it to work, you are dead.
This I agree with - some classes are incredibly overpowered at the moment - but with time "cookie cutter" setups will be created & we will see what the most overpowerd classes are - once each classes is fully known/understood I'd wager that's when they will be doing the balancing - it's still early days yet.

If nothing drastic changes before the first initial month of payment, I see this game just another one of those "MMOs" I tried and didn't like. :(
I'd suggest giving it a six month break & coming back then - as no game is going to be as polished as you would like so soon after release - in total honesty this is the smoothest, least laggy , most bug free & shipped with the most content out of any MMO I've played from the start.

EvE, WoW, WAR, Lineage 2, Darkfall, Fallen Earth, Star Trek Online, Champions Online, Guild Wars & Rift all suffered from now only the same problems TOR has - but to a much worse degree.

Remember the bright wizzard guard bombs annhilating entire teams with AOE damage in seconds - with only 1 guard & 2 healers keeping them alive.

Agreed!

I am 310K from Level 50 (all rested too) and I'm still on Belsavis! I decided to just do my class missions so will hit Voss tonight and then go back and do the planet story stuff with some chums - I understand some of the Ilum stuff requires you to have finished your class story so Voss/Corellia to do... is there class story stuff on Ilum?

Looking forward to some HM Flashpoints and Operations - I am more PvE then PvP - but i do have 750 Merc Comms where i've saved for Champ Bags :)

Less linear and actually letting you explore and have a choice to where you want to quest, actually give the incentive to group up - public quests etc.

The problem is, since it's a story driven game - everyone is off doing their story quests that there's no point in even grouping up. It just doesn't give me the feeling like other MMOs did.

I haven't experienced that on my server, general chat is filled with group requests, i've always been in a group on each planet more than once.

I dont think it's any less linear than all the "standard" mmo's.

The heroic 2+ and heroic 4+ are the incentives to group up - which all planets have a few of each.

They also offer the best rewards on each planet so to me that's already a good incentive.

Most of the MMO's I've played the real group play does not start until you hit max level - which is also the case in TOR.

The leveling "phase" is where you learn how to play your class - familiarise yourself with the story/lore & your characters backstory to prepare for endgame content (pvp/operations/flashpoints etc).

I do think they should add a selection of high level areas - designed for L50's - with mostly pvp based areas with various PVE + PVP objectives (like 4 different planets like Ilum) - but still plenty of time to add things.

Hit 36 the other night, and looked yesterday, went from 180K XP to 36 to 250K for 37, talk about a jump!

Just off to the next planet after Balmorra anyways, haven't even halfway finished any planet due to the amount of warzones I have been doing!

How does armour work in this game, is it like WoW and you need to think of a PvE items and PvP items seperately, or can you use for example the items earned through PvP like Champions Gear for PvE? - i've only just started the game, so I am not exactly sure if I should focus my time leveling up my Valor rank and earning commendations. (I'm currently playing on a PvE server)
