2560x1440 or 120Hz?

I prefer larger screens though, i wish i could try out a large screen before purchase.
Why not 1440p for gaming i would have guessed better quality?

27" 1440 all the way.

Ive had both, perhaps just my eyes but i couldnt ever see such a huge difference with 120hz, with 27" its not massively more than 24" (was smaller than I expected), but the extra screen resolution is lovely.

I find i get distracted looking around the expanse of 27" goodness. I'd rather a 1080p 24" 120hz monitor. Plus it's easier to push good graphics to!

This is the hardest decision of my life, getting rid of my eyefinity for a single 27 or 30inch screen then i have to choose 1440 or 1600p or 120Hz...

I would love to go up a notch to 27" 1440p as my next screen - this 2408 is showing its age a bit now - that and and it has some dodgy pixels running straight down in lines about 2" in off the right hand side which come and go :/

So... 120Hz noticeably smoother? i dont find 60Hz jumpy but okay, and 2560x1XXX is apparently too big for gaming!

So its quality over refresh rate and RR isn't a huge deal unless you can hit the magical 120fps in games on Ultra anyway.

My 6850 has no chance of hittin 120fps on BF3, so more than likely will get a 27/30 inch 2560x1xxx screen.

Question is now... Buy now or wait for newer releases? As i hear there are some Samsung's etc close to release.

Yes you would.

I play Battlefield 3 using 1080p, Ultra and 2xAA. With a couple of 6870, and sometimes my FPS still goes under 60.

BTW, the 6870 Crossfire is about 10% weaker then a single 6990.

no you wouldn't

I play BF3 at 2560X1600 using the same settings [albeit without hbao and motionblur] on a single GTX580. sure it drops slightly below 60 every now and again, but nothing that drastically affects gameplay.

I could probably switch them on if i turned aa and af off. You are aware that you don't need filters for a res that big though surely?

a 27" res would require less gpu power than my 590.

suggesting that a pair of 6990s are a requirement for 2560X1440 is confusing.

have you ever used ATI/AMD quad GPU drivers?

Dood 1440p, bf3 and a good Gpu = :). To be honest once you have been bitten by the high res, ips colours and no need to use AA I don't think you can go back to 120hz? But it's up to you?

I agree. I recently got the Hazro HZ27WD and was gaming at 1080p on it until my mini DP to DP cable arrived and thought 1080p was great at 27". But when I received my calbe and could game at 1440p I have to say it really changed the whole experience. I mean DAYUM!!! Games are just insanely sharp and colorful at this resolution.

And AA is always needed at any resolution! Never say otherwise or settle for less if you don't have to! (But 2x AA is enough to smooth everything out at 1440p whereas at 1080p you need at least 4x).
