Ok I know this is probably been answered else where on the forums, but I just wanted a definitive view from people if possible.

For the purposes of running 2 monitors and playing BF3/Deus Ex/SWTOR/etc what is the best card to buy at the moment. Tbh i want to be able to run BF3 on top graphics and have a high stable FPS. Is this achievable from the 560's or do I need a 590. Tbh I haven't read up on it enough yet. Just wondering what you guys would suggest for price/performance atm.

Initially i was gonna see how expensive the 7970's were, but they are 450+ everywhere. Also people are saying its a waste of cash unless ur running InfEye.

Don't listen to the fanboys crying about how expensive the 7970 is. You want the best you have to pay for it. If it was the other way round they wouldn't bat an eyelid and try to justify its price. Its only (on average) £50 more expensive than a 580GTX 3Gb and you can be assured you've bought this years technology (not last years) and it should last you a long time.

I guarantee you won't regret buying an ATI 7970 for your setup - I'm playing BF3 maxed out completely (Ultra super duper settings - 50 > 70FPS) and runs buttery smooth. I have one for a single monitor (1920x1200) and it just pwns any other single card solution, negating the requirement for SLI and or Crossfire which can be troublesome - all within a much lower power envelope than dual cards.

I'm not sure what it is off by heart, but yeah i think its probs the same as the guy above me 1920x1200 ?

My screen is a 23inch LED monitor. I'll double check when I'm not at work!

well i know i play BF3 on the max res i can atm, just have to play it on lower textures. is there anyway to know the res from my card, it is it determined by monitor make alone?

on a 23" monitor, depending on the model, make and age, it could be 1680 x 1050, 1920 x 1080 or 1920 x 1200. Unlikely to be anything above or below those.

GTX580 (1.5GB should be fine but 3GB if you're feeling flush)
6970 2GB
7970 (again, if you're feeling flush)

6970 2GB or GTX580 1.5Gb will be enough (AMD probably offers best VFM) but if you want to future proof you'll need ot shell out more for the 7970.

So even after all the bad things I've read about the 7970 it's still the main card you'd suggest for top end gaming?

Bad things in terms of its not worth it for price vs performance. I've read it looks like you can overclock the **** out of it though!

Top end GPUs are ALWAYS going to be poor VFM, especially so close to the launch date.

It's currently the fastest single GPU graphics card money can buy, ergo, if you want the very best you have to be prepared to shell out for it.

But, you don't NEED it for your resolution. You might need to sacrifice 4x MSAA in BF3 with either the GTX580 1.5GB or 6970 2GB to get consistently high FPS, but both would serve as an excellent solution.

Think im sold on that one! under 200 is nice! Tbh theres nothing too amazing coming out this year from what ive seen, so this will keep me busy for the next year ish!

Can defo run BF on ultra minus the 4x MSAA? at like 50 fps?

I run BF3 at ultra with 4x AA and I find it perfectly smooth. Thats with a 4.6ghz I5 and 8GB Ram...

yeah my i7 is at 4.8gh and got 1866mhz 8GB RAM.
So should be fine then.

Ha sorry Havana! Its just cos im at work and kinda flicking back and forth without my boss seeing !! thanks loads for the help guys xxx

This is a quick vid I made for someone showing BF3 on my 6950 1080p at ultra settings with 4 x MSAA.....Excuse the quality...
