Ive been looking at getting a xbox 360,
what are the downsides of going for the 4GB model?
Im more of a casual gamer as opposed to playing on it every night.
I know i wont be able to load the games from the hard drive due to it being so small so will that be a problem when playing certain games?

Some games lack full features wihtout a "proper" hard drive. Forza has limitations related to replays and movie exporting for example in addition to not having much space for the disk 2 content.

You can use a USB stick to bump up the storage but the Xbox doesn't see it as a hard drive.

I'd get the 250Gb one if you find the bit extra.

Yeah, I think Halo Reach is another that requires a proper HDD for the Forge. But it's only a few and they're all Microsoft Game Studios games. Breaking their own rules, of course.

I wouldn't bother getting the 4GB simply because further down the line you will kick yourself for not getting the HDD version. Especially if you start gaming a more on it.

Also you never know what MS will release via content or dashupdate in the future which may require the HDD (you may find some features disabled is what I mean).

Thanks,
so its worth just paying the extra and going for the 250GB one then :)

is there any good places doing good deals/bundles at the moment?

You could get a cheap 20/60gb hdd from an "old type" 360, take it out of it's shell/casing and slot it into the new one.

This is exactly what I done, I only paid £100 for my 4gb and took my old 60gb drive out of its casing and slotted it into the new xbox - it's a standard sata connection, little bit fiddly but once it's in it's in. There seemed to be a lot of scaremongering at the time (year and a bit ago) about microsoft banning consoles that didn't have the official "slim" sized drive but i've been fine.

The 20/60Gb drives are pretty old now I wouldn't use one for my game saves especially not something like Forza on a 20.

I can't see the point just to save £40-50, especially as you might be looking at spending money 'upgrading' the 4gb model. No point at all.

I seen the 4GB for £117.48 delivered but apparently they havnt got any stock anyway ,

i will keep my eye out for a deal on a 250GB version i think :)

Think I may have to go for the base model soon, good to see that the old drives can be jammed in and work fine!
My early '06 model has started to freeze during games, won't always boot to dashboard either. :( It's been running for about 2 years with Xclamp so guess I can't complain too much.

Only problem I had was that my old 4GB started failing at reading discs so I had to start installing the games. Which meant one, maybe two games could be played at a time.

So I got the 250GB just to be sure for next time it might happen :p
