US marines urinated on bodies of taliban fighters

When your commanding officers spend all day building up working, meaningful relationships with local leaders and citizens then your troops literally wee all over your hard work, I imagine it does kind of make your future position a bit difficult.
.

If you are saving the locals from the taliban why would they care what happens to the corpses?

Or is there some deep muslim belief that this is wrong even towards an enemy ? (genuine question)

I think there's a deep human belief that it's wrong to urinate on the dead body of anyone.

My mind is boggled that you even have to ask such a specific question.

I suppose it all boils down to the idea that in war there are rules. Rules that say whats ok to do to an enemy and whats not ok. Killing them in battle is acceptable because you cant usually win a war if your unwilling to kill anyone. But your not meant to then mutilate, desecrate or abuse the corpses of the fallen.

Trying to say its ok because the enemy does it is a ridiculous argument. Arn't we supposed to be the good guys? The nazis rounded people up into death camps in WW2. Would that make it ok for us to do the same to the German POWs?

Saying that, experiencing real life warfare is probably more horrific and soul destroying that most of us can ever realise. Sitting in our armchairs and playing FPSs doesnt make us combat experts. So I'm willing to concede that prolonged combat could lead people to do some damned distateful things. That doesnt mean its ok though. And there must be consequences.

"The Taliban" are people those guys getting pee'd on were fighting for the right reason, for their country / way of life for what they believe in.

Please go do some research on these disgusting ****ers before passing any judgement on who/what the Taliban are

I would not call that an atrocity.

I agree the Taliban are filthy animals the US Soldiers were just trying to give them a wash.

Perhaps you should ask them for a wash too.

just did a poll in my office 10 poeple, killing was the bad bit, pee was not realyl an issue since they were dead....

It brings to mind this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpZ8EkK3eWY

In this case, if you're urinating on a corpse then you're probably the bad guys.

I have every sympathy with young men sent far from home to do dangerous and frustrating work (which they volunteered for but don't have to agree with). But I have no sympathy with those who lose sight of why they're there.

If you don't realise you're part of the problem, how can you be part of the solution?

If their enemies guerilla tactics force them to horrific acts themselves, then they have failed.

Let me just clarify, I don't agree with urinating on the dead, however, in the grand scheme of what goes on there: beheadings, suicide bombers, thousands of civilians killed by both sides, a women getting pardoned after being raped.

The whole country is messed up and death is everywhere. Really, urinating on a body is not "horrific" at all.

put yourself in the mindset of a young civilian who has known nothing but war and hates the taliban and looks at the marines as a guide and a good person who is trying to restore order to your home town and then you see the video of them doing this? there goes your trust.

nail on head.

what? if I were the civilian and I spotted my american "saviors" kill some "evil taliban" that were killing my friends and invading my country I'd ask if I could dump on them, knife them, and bang a few more holes in them they see if I would get the "savious" to run a tank over them to see how squashed they got and upload it to youtube... (do the locals have internet access)

It actually kind of scares me that there are people on this forum that think its acceptable to kill someone in battle and then urinate on their corpse for a laugh.

Is it just because its some faceless person you'll never know anything about? Imagine it was one of your closest friends or family lying there, being ****** on for some scumbags amusement? How would you feel about it then?
