*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I think part of the problem is people are hitting end level far too quickly. Look at other MMOs, the leveling process was much slower initially, so they had more time to actually work on proper end game content.

Here's a novel idea: have end-game content in place for when the game gets released.

The issue with a lot of modern MMOs is that they have levels in the first place.

The old school mmo's had skill tree's. Everyone started on the same level, you had nothing (or some basics skills) and you built your character from that. Your character would reflect you, what you wanted to become in the game. You could have put 100 people in a room and not one of them would have identical skills.

There was always something to work towards, if you needed to you could unlearn skill points and start a fresh.

All good and valid points.

Specially when it comes to the end game and old style of skill points.

I hate the fact that I can't change from marauder to juggernaut after finding out marauder just doesnt suit me.

I actually rerolled on a new server as well as Juggernaut and I really enjoy it. The PvP is fun and I'm already buying lvl 40 orange gear that i want to wear when I hit 40 and afterwards thanks to modifications.

Yet, the games end content is very lacking, unless you like doing the same flashpoints over and over on Heroics, or doing PvP mostly.

I like PvP, but for a game that's main selling point was story, well that's very lacking.

Then there's all the other bugs and errors, and one of my most annoying ones being the removal oh High Res textures from the game, bar in cutscenes.

I really like the game, but some days I find it a chore to log in and play. Specially after I reached lvl 40+. Although that could also be since my friends quit the game because of problems and lack of content.

Playing alone gets boring quickly if you're done with the story or close to finishing.

I agree with RAVE, you keep telling us how bad the game is and that you have unsubbed and you have stopped playing but you still post on here looking for a reaction. If you hate it so much stop coming here and typing ***** as we not really interested, well i'm not!!

Dont read it? This is a forum afterall, everyones got an opinion. Id edit out the sweary too.

Of course you have opinion, but people just go on and on and on. Its getting a little boring now. I wish somebody would make a new thread for all the haters and leave this to the people who want to chat about the game and not how bad it is.
Everybody has to inform us that they unsubbed. Why? Do we really care?

maybe you don't but perhaps someone looking to buy the game might find it interesting :)

And don't forget, you can always add people to your ignore list if they are bothering you :)

It seems the game can look rather good when you play around with the LOD and set the AA right. Now all we need it bloody high res textures.

The funny thing is that the game actually runs better with the LOD set to -3 and the AA set at x8 in Nvidia Inspector, compared to the FPS hit you get from adding x2 AA in the .ini file.

All I'm saying is the last 10 pages have been the same old negative posts

Yes, you don't like the game, yes you quit and unsubbed, yes you think it's the worse mmo ever. Leave then, don't spoil it for the rest of us, maybe a few , just a few might still like it.

The thing is its a thread about ocuk people and their experiences with the game and unsubbing is part of that, unsubbing because youre bored/annoyed etc one month after launch is a major part of that. If you want a positive only thread a fan forum might be a better choice.

Edit - MMO Champion forums look like theyre heavily modded to stay on point.

I'm all for positive/ negative reviews. It's just getting a bit tedious now, it's like people want the game to fail.

Looks really good! any tips?

I have to admit, i'm playing it on a SSD and the load times are pretty much instant.

Only time it takes to load is via big zones like Hoth, Voss and so on.
Weird. They're awful for me, using a crucial SSD.

One for the underworld traders...If any Empire player on Frostclaw wants any high end (purple lvl 43-49) starship upgrade email me (Jevren) 4 x Promethium and tell me what you need and I'll craft it for you, can make all of them. Need me some Promethium. :p

I think people have every right to be making the criticisms that they are doing (perhaps not repeatedly over the past 60 or so pages, but still).

I believe the issue is really that people in general are burnt out from the WoW style MMO model, gathering and completing quests in this isn't all that different to WoW. In certain areas, you just want the quests done, you're getting bored with it, it's dragging on a bit and you want to go to the next planet. Then, you get a bonus series... (Taris as Republic, anyone?). In places, it does become a bit of a yawn fest.

Thankfully, you can make up for this lack of XP by doing PvP or Flashpoints, the latter of which can be difficult to find groups for. As for PvP, it certainly isn't fun when you end up with a load of level 15-30's vs a team with a lot of level 50's, but that doesn't mean you should give up. Your stats are bolstered and if you play right, you can give them hell with relative ease. Until there are 50 v 50 warzones, the balance is always going to be called into question. So far, it doesn't seem too bad, but changes need to be made.

Rift was the same as the above, after a while you forget about the lush graphics and changes and leveling was just the exact same story as WoW - wanting large parts of it over and done with as fast as possible.

I think the class quests are generally fun, but they are fairly short and the immersion of them is questionable in places. For example, some planets are huge and take hours to finish, yet in all this time you'll have 3 or 4 fairly short conversations relating to your class quest. This somewhat breaks the feel of the game being a single player game, with instanced zones breaking the feel of it being an MMO.

I can totally understand all of the above issues, and as I've said before, the next 2-3 months will make or break the game for Bioware. With Diablo III, Blizzard are on the edge of pulling a lot of people back into the Battle.net system, which is the last thing Bioware and EA will want to be happening.

Bioware have to do the following things, for me -

  • Get rid of instanced planets so there are more people around
  • Put in at least the 50 level bracket for warzones (done)
  • Fix all the high level flashpoints and operations, so they are bug free
  • Put in an option to enable the high res textures, hardcore gamers have high end PC's and they certainly aren't happy with this
  • Work on some sort of 2v2/3v3 arena system - this is extremely popular in WoW and would be easy to implement, but would make PvP harder to balance - tough
  • Keep rolling out new Flashpoints and Operations on a monthly basis
  • Realm forums on the official SWTOR forum, why have no cross realm flashpoint or PvP system and then leave this out?! Bizarre.

The above sounds like a lot to ask, but it's entirely reasonable when you gunning for World of Warcraft - without at least the majority of those improvements, they aren't going to get near it and will just haemorrhage subscribers on a daily basis.

Personally, I'm still very much enjoying the game. At times it can be a bit boring, without a doubt. I think the final key point is that as with WoW, Rift and any MMO, a lot of the immersion and entertainment comes from the other people you are playing with. They can make the game infinitely more enjoyable.

If you have an Nvidia gpu use Nvidia Inspector. Here's the setting I set.

The main use of it is to make metals, actually metalic and allow better details with LOD, it's set to -3 and Allow to let go into the negative numbers.

Sadly armour textures are still really bad, it does however make the game look a bit better.

They also still need to sort out the draw distance, I hate walking or being on a speeder and seeing the environmet grow infront of me.

Appreciate that, but AA still doesn't work for some reason.

Do you have the behaviour flag set to None? Also make sure there's no AA set in the.ini file

AA is broken in the game and even with x8 it's still quite jaggy sometimes. It does make a difference for me though.

There's also a setting all the way near the bottom to try and use FXAA if you like. I've not tried it yet though.

Definitely nothing in the ini and flags to none.

Enabled FXAA at the bottom and if thats all that needs to be set, it seems to work.

Glad it works. I do think it's the Engine itself that's problematic.
This is straight from the Developers of the Hero Engine.

We had thought about offering our engine and tools to developers but we had expected that we would have to actually ship a game first, like Epic did with Unreal Tournament before they licensed the original Unreal Engine.

“It’s not productized yet,” we told Gordon. “There are whole sections of code that is only roughed in and not optimized for performance or security. And there are very few comments and very little documentation.”

He didn’t care. “We are going to have tons of engineers. We can finish it ourselves. We’re going to want to modify your source code for our special project anyway.”

I am sure that BioWare had rooms full of engineers who customized the engine for their needs. That is normal for projects of that scale. Because of the way they chose to convey combat and the graphical style, they clearly had to highly tailor the renderer for their own needs. I don’t have much contact with their engineers any more (the last code drop they took from us was about 3 years ago) so I can’t really speak to how much of our rendering technology is left in SW:TOR but I honestly don’t think there would be much.

On the other hand, from the videos we saw before release it looks like most of the tools and production process are still in place, and that’s what we focus on when we show people why HE is special.

I think the game is awesome and I am sure that BioWare will release patches that address the issues that people are reporting. They are a solid developer with an amazing track record for making great games that work well.

So Bioware haven't received Engine updates in years and are probably missing all the new added features and performance improvements.

Since it seems they're still having problems getting it to run properly.

Well they could have updated it them self?

With regards to FXAA, its enabled and i can load the game and play fine, so i don't know if that means its working.
