I know its unknown how car prices go in the future what do you think it will be worth in 3 years time. (Adding 8-9k a year to mileage)

I would budget for £5k a year - in 3 years time it will all be about the new 3 Series convertible.

But more to the point, why? It's a convertible - you do NOT want the agricultural clatter of a 4 cylinder diesel engine making every top down cruise through town feel like you are navigating the Grand Union Canal.

There is simply no need to sully such a car with such an engine when the 3 Series Convertible is also available with one of the finest petrol engine ranges around - a 330i or 325i would be smooth, quiet, refined and still suprisingly economical as they are direct injection engines.

And just as an idea, do you even NEED to spend £27,000 on a 4 cylinder convertible? This is of course something completely different but just look at the value..

Same warranty etc.

Alternatively, if its an E93 you want, this is a much better car:

Well if the latest fashion of white cars dies off (which I hope it does) then less than any other colour hopefully!

And christ yes, 325i unless it's a company car.

Argh! What is everyone's crushing obsession with spending tens of thousands of pounds to save a couple of hundred quid a year?*

* with the exception of company car drivers

To give you an idea I paid 27k for 2007 E93 335i with 30k on the clock about 2 and a bit years ago.

I just put it up for sale today for 18k with the view of taking 17k for it. It now has 57k miles on it.

5k per year sounds about right but a crap diesel engine will probably hold its value a little better.

Why are you so bothered about having a 2 litre diesel when you are looking at £27-£35k cars?

Or is this one of those £300 a month every month for 10 years things? :p

You'd have to be absolutely barking mad to drop £35,000 on a 2 litre diesel E92 with cloth seats and solid paint. Absolutely bonkers. These are very ordinary cars to be spending this sort of money on.

If you are going to blow £30k on a car blow it on something very special that reminds you its worth £30k every time you turn the key. If you just want some sort of diesel thing, then spend a whole host less money, go on a load more holidays, and look back in 5 years time in satisfaction. I'm having palpitations thinking about a £35k 2 litre diesel E92 after my 'This doesnt feel worth the money' feeling I had with my £20k, 300bhp, twin turbo 335i

I just dont understand who buys these cars at this money I really don't. Unless you are plenty wealthy then £30k is a huge amount to drop on a car, but if you are plenty wealthy you don't need to mess about with the bottom of the range models with cloth seats etc. If you are watching the pennies and worried about the yearly road tax bill then what on earth are you doing at this end of the market..

If you really are that desperate to blow staggering amounts of money on a 4 cylinder diesel powered car then go and slap a deposit down on a brand new F30 320d or something. Sure it's a saloon but at least it's the absolutely latest thing you can buy and will be fresh and new for 7 years rather than discontinued and yesterdays news by next year as with the E92.

lol and ive been told :p

I just thought the Alpina was a nice "different" car.

What was the first car you linked you Fox in your first post?

It's not different at all, its just a 3 Series Coupe with the engine out of a 123d. They are not considered the same as true Alpinas by the market, which is why the first D3's now start from just £10k despite being only 5 years old..

The special Alpinas are a tad more expensive..
