Server needs to ban admins from using /time at all. Tonight we had pretty horrible bug with redstone torches not working on further investigation.

This is basically the bug we are getting.

When using a clock circuit on an RC2 test server, the circuit contained an inverter in which the torch failed to light after approximately 5 cycles after the /time set command was issued. Reproduced the bug multiple times by deleting the world and recreating the clock.

The circuit was tested at varying times between 10 minutes and 1 hour before the command was issued in each test, never failing until after the /time set command was issued.

How to reproduce:

1. Make a simple clock circuit containing an inverter(or even just a torch that turns on and off with each cycle)

2. Allow the circuit to run for a few minutes to verify the torch is stable.

3. Issue a Time Set command to the server.

4. Observe the torch failing to function within a few cycles of the command.

Replacing the torches causes them to burn out immediately in one cycle, but if the circuit is left in place for approximately 15 minutes the circuit will begin functioning again.

Done this myself on a test server multiple times with dif maps and reproduced the bug every time. Altho sadly i could not get the circuit to start again without server restarts. Pretty nasty bug tbh as lot people love working with redstone including myself on the server.

There are many clock designs, including torch-less designs. Won't these work?

Is there not any kind of workaround for this? And is it a problem that has been reported to Bukkit?

I can appreciate that sometimes /time is annoying but the few times I've been on and had to do some work somewhere in the world not setting /time day would mean that it'd be creeper city near the build I as trying to investigate and/or repair. Obviously I can set /gm mode but even then I may need other players nearby to show me things.

Sadly no know workaround other than restarting server or the below possible fix. Both Jeb and Bukkit know about the problem. It happens in SSP so not a bukkit bug but a game bug.

This the only possible fix http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/493077-11-redstone-torch-burnout-fix-ssp-smp/. Not had time to test this personally + it is 1.1 not 1.0.

@ silasfj it is not just clocks that are effected but redstone torches as a whole. So even just a simple redstone torch connected to a leave wont work.

We can't really install that fix as it could have implications for players requiring modded clients and/or knackering Bukkit. I've not finished reading the thread though.

I just see it as a bug and to only use /time as a last resort with a view to restart afterwards.
To me it seems very rare I ever see an admin use /time anyway.

Too... much.... awesome!
