Marked some one elses door with my door :/ questions inside

Am I the only one seeing the small dent in the pic as well as the scuff at the area of damage or do most of you know people with three arms? :D

Yeah, this was always the risk.

My Mum opened the door of the car onto someone else a few weeks back. The guy was stood there and I apologised profusely before proceeding to let her have both barrels.

However, whilst i'm happy to pay for the damage, i'm not happy to get ripped off. I'd have told him to shove it and let it go 50/50. I doubt he'd even call back. £329 is an absolute rip off - is he trying to get the whole panel replaced?

Would have been happy to pay for the damage but £329 is a silly price so did kinda tell him not to bother tryin to get quote for it off of hits mates mate and just go through the insurance which he did

So in future if my car with a large front bumper rubs against the corner of another persons and removes a bit of paint i'm now expected to give over my insurance details, or if it happens to my car i should demand them from the other person, lol, no wonder i pay more than the car is worth to insure it.

Yes, of course you'd give your details in these situations. People like you are the reason this country has the reputation it has!

People like firefilesuk are the reason for me having to pay out damages on their mistakes, small scratches and such, one down to metal and nothing of owning up.

I have to pay for it, idiots like that think it's fine to just walk away.

lol, i allways take care when opening doors when in busy car parks but i can understand why some dont and that others make mistakes, especially if they have kids or whatever, yeah if the panel was clearly bent on an expensive motor the logical conclusion would be that this would adversly affect the value and a claim from the other party should be made but a tiny ding on an inexpensive car is just a waste of everyones time even moaning about, cant beleive you guys are encouragin gthis guy to part with money to chipsaway etc.

If they/you make a mistake ...then as far as I am concerned you pay for it. It's the accepted norm.

It's not just about the value of the car either, not everyone is happy to drive around in a car with dents in it, however old or worthless it may or may not be.

Saw someone the other day who actually rested his door on the car next to him in a service station on the M4! I would be ****ed if someone did that to my car.

So would I, I don't have bump-strips on my current car. Bump-strips are a very nice thing to have, it would seem that car designers don't like them anymore though.

Yeah i kinda mentioned that on the phone to him about it will raise both of our insurance ad how he wanted his mate do to the work for a lot of ££ rather than my step dads due to he wants to make sure its done right...lol more like he just wanted the cash.It went through the insurance in the end so dreading my next years cost (£2500 atm)

Wtf? Not everyone has the same wealth. A Saxo, owned by a poor person, is just as important as a Bugatti Veyron owned by a multimillionaire.

Everyone needs to retain value in their cars, Even poor people with cheap cars. Just because it's a Saxo, doesn't mean it's worthless to the owner.

+1.
The paint doesn't even look that bad in the pic, just dirty, sure there are a couple of scratches but which car without remote central locking doesn't ? Most of these scratches usually VERY easily polish out, usually they're not that deep.

Turn the picture 90 deg so it is in the correct position, the mark looks massive compared to the door handle. And yeah there's a dent below it too, but I doubt that is from you though. Regardless, you caused quite a big mark on someone's car.

**update** lol they only just chased me for a few payments due to me cancelling my insurance before the full year and they said it cost £883.58 to repair that damage
