What pushchair did you get for your newborn, where from and how do you rate living with it?

Yep, its that time again, buying baby stuff :) So many reviews I've read of pushchairs seem to read like marketing guff and quite a few "user reviews" seem somewhat suspect.

Last one we had was a Phil and Ted something or other, pretty big 3 wheel thingy. Very manoeuvrable but quite heavy and awkward to fold down, nearly lost finger tips to that thing

Was looking at a Nurse Dakar Formula "travel system" which includes car seat and carrycot. Seems very light and easy to stow but perhaps too light and not as solid as I'd like

Random one I know but any feedback would be appreciated :)

Do not buy a travel system they are a waste of time and you won't bother with half of it. They are overly heavy and bulky because they are designed to be a jack of all trades master of none.

In all honesty I'd buy a 2nd hand set if you are led around by your mrs that she has to have a travel system. 6-9 months we had ours and then we were looking for a better larger car seat and buggy. It cost £500 and got sold in immaculate condition for £90.

That was all I could get for it and the pram section was used once :(

You will though ignore all the above and buy a brand new travel system because you will be convinced you need to buy new for little timmy. :D

I get you completly, but as you said Mrs has the final say tbh. She won't go second hand! Car seat and carry cot is a must though

The Phil and Teds stuff got handed down to her sister for nowt, 100% depreciation :D

Haha yeah what gets me is none of this stuff has any value second hand because women demand on brand new.

I have a spare room full of booster chairs, digital room monitors etc etc and checking even ebay it's not even worth the cost of postage and packing.

There's very little market in any of the stuff, I'm just about to take a load of stuff to the tip/charity shops and what's left car boot for about £10 for the lot :D

Absolute madness the waste in baby stuff.

We find the versatility of our travel system irreplaceable. Yes we'll buy a stroller in time, but they are small fry. Yes we'll need a bigger seat in time because new born seats don't last forever.

We bought a Quinny buzz, with pushchair attachment, pram attachment and maxi cosi pebble car seat. We also bought the familyfix car adapter the seat clips onto (like a base station in the car).

Much easier than messing with belts, and much safer.

We chose the quinny cos it didn't break the bank and had the best mechanism for folding and unfolding. Bit light on storage though.

We bought new, because frankly we can afford it and wanted to. All in the travel system cost us £315+£100 for pram + £110 for seat + £100 for familyfix base (you don't have to have the base but trust me it's worth it)

We got a bugaboo bee plus with a maxicosy cabriofix carseat, didnt go isofix, didnt need to, all is and was excellent.
Now she is over a year we went for a cybex pallas seat for the past several months, which is also excellent as she loves facing forward.
We got a good deal from an online retailer with raincovers and stuff included for free with the cacoon which was useful to begin with.

We bought a 500quid 3-wheel "travel system" from mothercare. Its too big and awkward and so we bought a cheapie argos pushchair which is now 3 years old and still going strong. Travel system is in the loft.

You will have plenty of important new things to spend your money on now so dont spend more than u have to.

We brought 1 of the maxi cosi all in 1 systems(like the mura 3) which was really useful when the baby was young as you could carry the baby around in the carrier and just clip the carrier into either the car or push chair. But the main downside was the push chair was to wide for going down narrow shop isles so we ended up buying a cheap narrow push chair for that. With young babys that like to sleep every 10 minutes this solution made life a lot easier for us as you dont have to keep transferring the baby from chair to chair or pram.

We have a Maxi Cosi/Quinny combo and to be honest I don't really like it. The Maxi Cos seat itself is great and very easy to use in the car but the pushchair is clunky and the front wheel seems to stick a lot which is just a pain. Now our baby girl is 10 months old she's in some bigger car seats and I'm glad to retire that pushchair and use a decent buggy.

Buy decent second hand and put the difference between that and extortionate ammount of money your missus wants to pay into a savings account for the child.

This is your first born I take it? Don't do what oooodles and ooodles of first time parent do and spend stupid silly ammounts on things. It's silly. Something you will understand when you get onto your second, third, etc.

For an urban stroller, I recommend the Quinny Zapp. It literally glides through shopping centres and folds up into a very small package. It can be stored underneath a chair in a restaurant, for example, or in a car footwell - it's that small. Great for use when shopping or travelling when the car's already full, but not so great on rougher terrain.
