I'm in agony and you'll all end up like this.

I'm feeling a bit down at the moment because this weekend I've turned a corner and realise that I'm getting old.
I've often heard the phrase 'It takes longer to heal when you're older' but I'm now realising it.
I'm even looking at my first day off from work tomorrow since September 1988 because I can hardly move.

On Friday I left work and walking outside our building I slipped on something and did an 'old man trying to keep his balance' routine but ended up falling forward like an old tree.
Usually in these situations you would jump up because of embarassment but I hit the floor with so much force that I was unable to move for a good 3 minutes.
I work in a place with 7000 staff, 1200 Nurses, 1000 Doctors and about 100 ambulances but not one person came past me in that time and I really needed help.
I eventually got up and my left hand was covered in blood and both my coat and trousers were ripped.
Blood was coming from my right elbow and knee plus bad pain where I'd fell into my keys.
I got home, cleaned up and had to ask my bass player to pick me up for our gig where I got drunk to get me through the evening.
I woke up Saturday morning with pain coming from every limb and today is just as bad but I'd thought I'd be OK by now and be able to shrug it off.
I'm just feeling sorry for myself so have some sympathy and just want you all to know that one day this will be you.

Cool story Grandad.

Nothing to be ashamed off, it's a sad state of affairs how no one came to help, it's a sign of the times im afraid.

Lots of vitamin c will help relieve the aches and pains, just rest up and give it time, i find cissus helps a fair bit when im feeling a bit beat up.

Im 37 and slowly noticing how im shrugging thing off slower, just gotta learn to take it easy.

I'm 17 and get annoyed at the fact that I'm getting older. Knowing I'll never believe in Santa again etc, such a horrible feeling.

My old man soldiered on with a broken hip for months after having a fall. The drugs he had to take for the surgery when it was finally sorted contributed to his death 2 weeks afterwards.

I'd go and get it looked at.

Elbow and knee injuries are not to be poo pooed, regardless of age. I chipped a bit of my elbow off and skinned the whole area after a slip in the ice a couple of years ago. Still feels a bit odd now and then. It put me out of action for ages on my left arm (broke my pinky finger too and skinned knuckles too)

Take a week sick and get some Werther's Original and hot chocolate

**** dude, sounds bad. Wouldn't worry about it so much, it was only a few months ago I faceplanted and scraped hands and knee's badly. I wasn't getting of the floor in a hurry either.

I guess it's just a question of knowing your boundaries. Personally even at 22, I'm lacking in co-ordination and thus I'm loathe for things like ice skating and what not. Football and the rest I can deal with because I know how to approach them.

Anyway, make sure you go to your doctor for a check up as Ahleckz was saying, and make sure you take things easy for the next week or so. You sound like you've got a great family so it shouldn't be to much of an issue I hope.

P.s Worth seeing a consultant on the issue of your drugs and what not? You've mentioned a mixup before which led to impaired mobility, so maybe it's worth seeing the ramifications of this?

Take care. :)

Sorry to hear that dude and I hope you get better soon!

I dont mean to sound mean but I believe it is a state of mind when it comes to age. I have lived extensively in Asia specially in Nepal & Bhutan and I notice things are very different there compared to our western culture when it comes to age.

Older people are respected and looked up to - but the real eye-opener for me was the way the elders just carry on living like nothing happened.

During a recent visit (just last Christmas actually) I went trekking there again and while tramping through the mountains came across a 75yr old (yes we asked) granpa carrying a small TREE TRUNK on his shoulder while puffing away on a cig. He had an old sweater on with holes in it, torn jeans and a woolly hat and gave us all a grin. Had a good natter with him and he said he been doin this for ages collecting firewood. I asked if he felt pains and if it wore him down and he smiled and said of course not! And off he went humming and puffing away (up a STEEP slope) - at a decent clip mind, he was not hobbling! Far far fitter than I was.

Shockingly I find that here in the UK someone in their late 30s is already called "old" and its called "getting older". Lmao. Oh please. Old = 90!
