So Im getting virgin installed, and have gone for the cheapest 10MB package, I have read that I should get a download speed of around ~1.0Mb/s, and a speed test should return 9.5MB/s

Is there anyone that has had problems, or anyone that lives in the Birmingham area, that has those kinds of speeds?

Thanks in advanced

Not in Birmingham but no one i know has issues. I've got 50mbit and see close to 6MB/sec. Just ftr but you mean 1.0 MB/sec and 9.5 Mb

I have always got what they quoted, however their over all reliabilty is pretty awful for me..random complete cut offs etc.

like a lot of internet companies they do throttle .

i have been with almost everyone now :D and all companies do throttle or do some other kind of trick to stop u dl .

vm for gaming is the best. currently. how it goes after bt sort themselves out who knows

ive always had a ood connection and in the 11 years ive been with blueyonder ive probably had about 1 month downtime total

Thanks for the replies, I knew about the difference between MB and Mb, but I still get them confused :S

Well Lets hope that the service is good, because I payed extra for fibre optic over phone line!

If you get slow speeds when downloading from websites try a multi-part downloader like DownThemAll for firefox as many websites limit the speed per connection.

For speed and somewhat reliability, I love Virgin.

For customer service, I'd say run for your life. They are bloody awful to existing customers.

I pay for 50mb, and get 50mb, no more no less. Can't complain. I'm getting upgraded to 100mb in a month too!

This makes me rage. My local exchange (Poplar) was upgraded for Infinity Oct '11 Yet BT can not provide me with this service, anyone know if high rise buildings have their own DPs within the building, this is the only reason I can fathom why BT can not provide me with it. The worst thing is, is that this is whatI do for a living in a sense, I have the matierals in my house to provide fibre to local cabinet.

God damn, I live a 3 minutes walk to one of Londons financial hubs, stuck with 8mb, you may say that 8mb is good. It is. But I used to live in London E1, and had an unlimited 22mb connection.

The exchange I currently connect to is so messed up, you can not get an unlimited contract from anyone. My bill with plusnet last month was 72 quid.
