How long could you live in a supermarket for?

I would give it a month before it would just be intolerable to live in with all the food going off (I'm assuming this is a zombie apocalypse)
 
I'm with Castiel on this - get in, get the canned/tinned goods and plenty of water and get out before anyone else gets there :p

I'd consider that an idle boast if it came from anyone else bar you. . . . . . . :p

My zombie survival guide is restricted to digging in - in my home initially, with a planned escape route to the North of Scotland should things turn nasty. :p

Unless you have a very large family......


I'd let others rob the store first then rob then with a carefully laid trap.

Aye....with Zombie Apocalypse's, avoiding people (with the exception of a hot chick on occassion, naked so as to expose any potential bite injury) would be the primary goal.

No people=No Zombies=Not getting bitten and becoming the Walking Dead.....which I would assume to be a very tedious thing to be.

I am quite fortunate in that, about 50 yards from me, is a small corner shop that stocks everything. Sod the supermarket, I would be tanning this place although it would be harder to enter given its fully bricked construction on 3 sides and thick shuttering on the only open side :o

The small supermarket 5 mins walk might be a better/easier option.... hmmm...
 
Just had a quick scan around my living room. I appear rather sorted for a quick escape should the zombies strike... Running gear, head torch, spotting scope, decent knife, waterproofs and a small hydration/running backpack to store it in.... Good enough to make a quick escape at short notice :D

Consider that difficult to enter will equal difficult to leave if your entry point is compromised.

Always have more than one exit strategy.....

I also agree. I don't think they will be that great for resupply after a few weeks either. Get everything you'll need to travel somewhere remote with good food and drink possibilities and then stay there indefinitely.
 
Depends if you were eating normally, or if you were going to eat like they were rations.

Normally, a few years, rations... Then lots of years. :)

You will have major problems with vermin and would have to clear and dispose of all perishable goods within a very short period otherwise you will have serious health risks with disease and infestations.....also most supermarket structures have very short term lifespan, around 10 years or so, needing major refits on a regular basis.

They would also be high value targets to just about any roving band of survivors so would need to be in an easily defensible position (which they rarely are) with the required manpower to do so, which in turn will drain the resources of the supermarket that much faster.

Without significant power and heating, clothing and dry goods would soon succumb to damp and mold, not to mention the aforementioned vermin issues.....

And that is just stuff I can think of on the spur of the moment.

Supermarkets are not ideal places to hold-up....they should be treated as potential resupply only and even then with great care and planning, otherwise they should be avoided wherever possible.
