Do sky take back their boxes?

I didn't think you could, last tiime I looked was some years ago though.
I've just cancelled my multiroom package along with a few other bits, if I could still record on the hd box then I'd consider dropping my subscription entirely.

I was gonna say because then having sky for 12months might be a good way to obtain a good HD HDD recorder :p

Probably a stupid question, but would you still be able to use it to record programmes onto the boxes harddrive if you were using it this way?

NO.

You have to pay them £10 a month for it to work as you are paying for use of the software with Sky.

Alternative is to buy another PVR which doesnt have such issues.

from memory they have to send a signal to disable sky+, keep the box unplugged for six months and it should keep on working

LOL. There is always mad rumors like this with Sky.

You technically buy the equipment from Sky. So therfore it belongs to you, it saves Sky money in the long run selling you the equipment rather than renting it to you.

You also don't need a Freesat card, keep your old card and it will work the same.

Sky+ will not work, unless you open an account and pay the sky+ subs which is £10 a month.

So yeah, you keep it. No point in returning it, just like the dish is also yours.

Is the IQ on the new boxes with HDMI better than the scart boxes? The Sky+ box my parents use has terrible IQ. Will Sky replace it for no other reason? Anyone tried to get them to give a new box out?

The new SKY HD box's are far more enjoyable to use than the Sky+ box, and will give you a better picture (especially with the free to air HD channels)

I got my parents one, phoned up cancellations and told them the Sky + box had stopped working and was thinking of getting rid. Few minutes later they had agreed to reduce the package and send out an engineer to replace the box free of charge (they only give out Sky HD box's now, so you will get a better one).

Don't bother talking to customer services, they have no power to offer you deals and kept telling me to pay £200 for a new box.

One of my Sky+ boxes was acting up and even though I got it working, there is no access to the pause and rewind functions or the planner and the bugger won't turn off. I called and got short shrift from their employee until I told him where he could ram the Sky Movies package and my two multi-room subscriptions.

He still tried to play hardball until I pointed out that my Sky+ boxes always go wonky whenever there is an update. It's all over the web and he couldn't deny it. I pointed out the problem between their hardware and software updates and how they seem to be very incompatible at times. I then threatened to involve a solicitor given that the update had wrecked one of my Sky+ boxes and Sky was culpable. He quickly offered a free engineer visit and a free HD box. Job done.

LOL, because I'm sure the guy on the end of the phone is scared about your solicitor getting involved.

I used to love customers saying that.

To echo what others have said, with Sky, the box is yours to keep as long as you've had it at least 12 months.

It won't work with Virgin, and it probably won't be worth a whole lot.

Well just to make sure I am going to give sky a quick ring and then I'll stick it on the MM although not sure what to offer it at

Thanks for that lookitsjonno, I have a load of other things I need to put on there so will get my act together and sort it out tonight.

Exactly. It's hardly coming out of his pocket and he wont be receiving a lawyers letter. He's just doing his job. The more you threaten these people, the less they are going to help you.

Being polite and throwing in a few please sir and thank you sir always does the trick. Then call him a **** when he hangs up.

Psychology ;) Works on everything... except woman :(
