**Australian Open Tennis 2012, Melbourne, 16th Jan to 29th Jan**

Nadal and Fed both comfortably through to the Quarter finals...well on their way to meet in the Semi's!

Nadal v Berdytch

Federer v Del Potro

Should be 2 cracking matches! :D

Also potentially looking at

Murray v Tsonga

Djokovic v Ferrer

if all the players win as expected!

Murray through 6-1, 6-1, 1-0 as opponent pulls out after 44mons...will play Nishikori in the quarters who shocked Tsonga and beat him in 5 sets! Really a good quarter final coming up for Andy now!

Yep, hopefully Nishi will be shattered after that, Andy can win in three, and rest up and prepare properly for Novak.

i was just reading the beeb website article about djokovic beating hewitt and saw this....

Did you know?
Djokovic had only lost 10 games on his way to the last 16 before giving up 13 against Hewitt.

3 rounds previous, so that's 9 sets he must have won losing just 10 games. that's freaking insane.

I know...he's been hammering away at the lesser opponents in the draw, actually his first test-ish would have been Hewitt today, albeit an ageing Hewitt but good to see he put in a good account of himself. To take a set off Novak in this vein of form is terrific and I'm really pleased for him.

Novak seems to be carrying on from where he was last year and is playing fantastic, be he's not unbeatable. With a big test coming in the form of Ferrer, which I'm hoping that somehow goes 5 sets and he is a bit tired as Murray should see himself through in 3.

I really do think whoever prevails in the seemingly eventual semi between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic will win this title. Just get the feeling from both.

So the Quarter Final line-up in full...

Nadal v Berdytch

Federer v Del Potro

Murray v Nishikori

Djokovic v Ferrer

Apart from Murrays draw there are 3 absolute crackers of matches in there!

I'm going for at least one shock this round, one of the top four to drop out. I reckon it could be Fed.

Yep, that "prediction" is starting to look silly now. :o

Your prediction for Fed may be looking silly but you may be right about one of the top 4 getting knocked out...Berdytch is a set up on Nadal and the second set could be heading to another tie break...

Interesting stuff, but another good performance by Fed.

*EDIT* Or maybe not...looks like Rafa has this one now!

Yeah, Berdytch got my hopes up but seemed to fade away in the end and it was an easy last couple of sets for Rafa.

I'm happy to retract that prediction now as I think AM and ND look the strongest two in the Men's singles atm, can't see either losing.

I'm just hoping Ferrer can at least drive Novak to 4 or 5 sets.

If you were Andy, who would you take from the other semi? Rafa is the better player but looks to be carrying some kind of injury. I think i'd take him over Roger.

Suspected injuries aside it would be Nadal every time for me if I was Murray.

Nadal really doesn't have a great record here, well, by his standards at least and Murray has beaten him here so I'd have no fears going into the final against him.

Fed for all his aging is looking great out there and would be more dangerous in the final.

I'm sticking to my pre-tourney prediction though of the winner of Novak/Murray winning it.

So Andy through with ease as expected...

6-3, 6-3, 6-1

Novak joins him in the semi final...

6-4, 7-6, 6-1

So the semi-finals have fallen to the top 4 yet again which should make for terrific viewing. My pre-tournament prediction is still going with everything falling into place.

What will be interesting see is how they pan out, Murray is looking strong, fit and calm. Novak is in the form of his life...still!!! Hard to call this one, you have to give the initial edge to Novak but if Murray can maintain a high level of performance for the duration he has a chance.

If he can keep a first serve % of around 60% then he has a weapon there but it's the consistancy that he must maintain as Novak continues to be almost robotic on the court, a trait Murray doesn't quite have...yet.

Fed/Nadal...god this could be a good one. I have to give the edge to Roger here though, he has a much better record at this slam compared to Rafa and he has played really solid tennis throughout. Was thoroughly impressed with his domination of Juan Martin Del Potro but whenever these two play it always ends up a 4/5 setter. Should be exciting.

Still standing by my prediction of the winner between Andy/Novak coming through to win the tournament but a lot may lie on how long both Semi-Finals take and how much of a toll they take on each player.

I would have to go with Djok or Federer. I think that Djok will beat Murray and Nadal, as he can defend as well as both of them but also has a better attack, but he can struggle against Federer very aggressive playing style.

If Federer can overcome his mental block against Nadal and take his chances in the early sets then I can see him winning not only the semi but the final as well.

Nadal into the final as he defeats Federer

6-7(5-7), 6-2, 7-6(7-5), 6-4

63 Unforced Errors from Fed...ouch!

Was a good match up and enjoyable to watch. Interestingly enough this is who I wanted to make the final if only for Murray to face him as I think he genuinely has a chance against him as the Aus Open isn't his best surface to play on.

Anyways...onto tomorrow morning now, Novak vs Andy, can't wait!

Just hoping Andy Murray can get to the final but he will need to put in a hell of a performance to beat Novak tomorrow, if he can get him working all over the court then he has a chance but Murray needs to be aggressive at the right times throughout.

Meh gutted that Federer is out at the hands of Nadal...think its perhaps time that Federer called it a day...he just cant compete consistently with Nadal and Djokovic these days.

Hoping that Djokovic beats Murray then goes onto beating Nadal.

I'm hoping the opposite to be honest :p

I hope Murray beats Djokovic and then goes onto beating Nadal.

They did actually question "where does Roger go from here?" as essentially what does he do? He hardly plays in many tournaments these days, essentially the higher points ones and today he started well but he seemed to lose belief, and when have you ever seen Federer like that?

Looking forward to tomorrows semi, 8:30GMT start meaning since I'm off work I'll at least get to watch Murray in a match in this Australian Open :p

Hopefully he can at least push Djokovic a lot harder as he has improved and likewise Djokovic, will be interesting.
