*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I'm not sure why people complain about exhaustion zones - WoW is set over 2 continents with water surrounding them.

They do have exhaustion zones - try moving out to sea & see what happens - hell, you can't even go from one area to another without taking a "flight" - the gap in the middle is a massive exhaustion zone.

TOR is set on multiple planets, not all of which have water.

Unless you want every single area to have large walls around the edges, water around the edges or invisible walls - I'm unsure exactly what people expect?.

Big wall or exhaustion zone - makes no difference to game-play, just it would look really silly on the open worlds (if they build random walls everywhere).

Yea I do know what you're saying, when I was playing I had people literally get fully geared up on day 1 of 50. I've had others who got 1 PvP item in 10 days.
Tbh that's what's bugged me most - I hit 50 pretty early & people who dinged 50 two weeks after out-geared me in a couple of nights - it's a bit daft when they are just about valor rank 12 & have a full pvp set - with me in the late 50's with 2 pieces lol.

To be fair, none of these is a game-killer, but when you take them all together it starts to get annoying how lazy they've been in putting the whole thing together.

The mirror classes thing isn't unique, there are other games that have similar, but it smacks of laziness, saves them having to balance as many classes in PvP.

The day/night cycle - how cool would Coruscant look at night? Or Alderaan. Again, small thing that just reminds you only playing a game.

The cosmetic slots - LOTRO has spoiled me in this regard, but even Warhammer had dyeable armour. The lack of variety in clothing is, again, just annoying enough to notice.

You'll notice an exhaustion zone as soon as you try to leave Anchorhead on foot. No good reason for it other than to break the immersion. Again, lazy development.

Crafting - doesn't even have to be complicated or involved, just something more than crafting hilt 1 at level 10, and hilt50 at level 50 with just higher bonuses. At least drop some cool and unusual stuff in there to keep things interesting.

As a developer myself, you can see what happened at some stage in the dev cycle:

Manager: Well, how are things progressing?
Project Lead: Well we have got most of the planets sorted. Adding questlines to them and next on the list is space combat.
Manager: Good. Had a discussion with the board, they want the game released in December.
Project Lead: But that gives us no time to finish ...
Manager: ...We need to get the game out. It's been long enough. Get the core items into the game to make it playable. The stuff that can be added later that adds uniqueness to the game can wait.
Project Lead: Ok. Means we have to cut about 50 items for release.
Manager: Ok do it. Can you have the new project plan on my desk in a few hours? And let the devs know what's happening. Thanks.

Time constraints happen. Stuff that has been mentioned like day/night cycles and vanity/cosmetic slots are nice to have but not essential or game-breaking without having them. WoW only got transmogrification in the last patch for example.

They are working on fixing the major problems, while preparing more content. The game will never be totally finished, development will always be ongoing, the same way Blizzard has done for years. I'm sure most if not all the missing items that have been mentioned is on a development list somewhere and is all prioritised.

Can't say that's the case for me.

Just been trying to use Pommel Strike, and it just looks like my character was nudging the enemy with his elbow, instead of hitting the guy.

He was nudging about 4 times as I kept hitting the key after the cooldown popped and nothing happened.

I had it last night as well, trying to get into cover but just standing there like a lemon for 2-3 seconds, getting beaten up.

A guildmate also suffers from it badly playing his Marauder - while class isn't anything to do with delay, I think the "10 fingers per hand" requirement to play Marauder makes it more noticeable when things do not go off.

Lots of these little niggly items are starting to irritate me and I've been very over excited about the game for a long time - maybe I just built it up too much, as per normal ;)

Why are people getting hung up on comsmetic slots?

We have orange items, that can be modded.

I found a set I liked, I bought it, I kept it, I leveled with it and I'm modding it.

My character looks the way I want him to look and he has up to date gear.

never really though of this, guess it could be a nice addition.

I've yet to play any sort of MMO that I've liked the crafting in.

I hadn't noticed that, it's a good point!

I wouldn't have said it's that bad. It's not great though.

It's not the first MMO that's done this though. I quite like it. except when i'm under lvl14 :)

Seriously? I don't think there's enough instancing. I always end up running missions about 30 seconds behind about 4 Jedi that clear everything leaving me nothing to fight. I think it could do with more instancing.

You mean the same classes on both sides? Is that unusual?

Not found these yet.

I would add that I dislike the friends and chat system. Being able to have friend and chat to them on other servers would be nice. Also a better chat setup in general would be handy.

This is all just my opinion of course!

I have to ask what game are you playing cause it sure as hell don't sound like sw.tor

Because they made their cool orange items redundant end game. Set piece bonuses and stats on end game armour are better.

However if they did as suggested and linked the set piece bonuses to the armour mods instead we could carry on using our orange bikini's...er i mean armour.

I submitted a post about 200 pages back which confirmed they are changing this so you can move mods - however they will lock to certain types, so removing the stats and armouring from boots means you can only put them in boots for isntance - it stops the farming for certain pieces and using it to make a full set.

I hope it's in the March update, if not sooner!

Hehe, yeah I've heard they are going to make all pvp/raid gear able to take out the mods so we can use any orange gear.

Kinda solving the issue of cosmetic gear.

Currently all PVPers look the same & all raiders look the same, so I'm glad they are changing this.

That's good to know glad our feedback is being listening too, not a bad beta so far.

When's release again? ;)

Haven't played for a while eh? 3 continents and Outland now. True if you swim out to sea you'll die but why would you want to swim between continents? Drowning is pretty accurate. One continent completely flyable now on mounts so no exhaustion zones or unscalable mountain ranges, which are visible walls in SWTOR and other MMOs including WoW. Personally thought the starter worlds in SWTOR were funnels and claustrophobic but it improved later on. Never had that open world feel though, just felt like I was moving from room to room, especially the space flight and boarding exiting your ship.

Well they haven't fixed ability failure, I'm sure that's seperate to ability delay, regardless the vid I posted earlier of Sweep/Smash failing, yup... just logged in a tried it, first thing it does?

First....

Fails.

I thought all of the continents are now completely flyable? And the only exhaustion zone is the sea around the continents? Makes perfect sense and you certainly get that epic sense of scale.

Think you're right, had a brain fart and there was 1 continent outstanding when I quit. Anyway don't want to hijack this thread but agree about sense of scale.

Guild banks seem like a good idea, I would like to see a 'family' bank so you can trade with your alts across factions, doing it through the Nar Shaddaa market is always risky.

You need to replace that lightsaber though ;)

Okay, so I have not played very much over the last few weeks due to work commitments.

Where is everyone playing now????? Logged into Frostclaw a few times (empire) looking for fellow TDR members and with the exception of 1 or 2 people no one is about.

Everyone moved home?
