New Xbox to have a 6670?

Makes relative sense considering the volume required, the output resolution (1080p) and the cost. Added to the fact the AAA titles _should_ get the most out of it. Are people really expecting top end gaming hardware to end up in a mass market product? How many GTX 580's were sold?

It's on par with the level of hardware put in the 360 in comparison to PC hardware at the time of launch. I don't see the problem. It's likely going to cost around £300 at launch so you really expect them to put a card worth over half the cost into it?

Graphics don't make much difference to me any more, so I think it's fine.
I'm pretty much happy with the graphics of the 360 but would want higher resolution, AA and better frame rates.

If it is 6x more powerful than the 360 we should have some great looking games.

A 6670 in 2013 will be massively underpowered for the next 5 years. I think that will change before launch.

Just initial stock to get dev's access to their machines if you ask me, like how the 360 had a x800 pro for initial developer stock before being upgraded.

Yup this sounds like the case to me.

Dev kits with these in, nice and cheap and fast to produce but based on the same architecture as the final card.

Then higher spec card in the final product.

Doesn't really matter, the 360 uses a chip not too disimalar to an X1800/1850, not done too bad for 5 years and is of course churning out better graphics now than in the early years.

The PS3 is churning out great graphics on the back of a chip based on NVidia Geforce 7800 architecture...again over the course things are getting better as the years go on.

Consoles are completely different beasts so really don't look too much into it.

I still expect it to improve before launch, MS did the same with both the original xbox and the 360, allowing them to get developer machines out quicker.

The thing that got my attention is that it will only be 20% more powerful than WiiU...

Considering the 360 and the PS3 were miles apart from the Wii this gen, then for the gap to only be 20% (if the article is to be believed) would be quite a bit of catchup played on Nintendo's part.

Bearing in mind they are apparently using a chip based on the 4870architecure...which again could change come final units etc that card is in fact miles in front of a 6670.

So yes I would probably tend to agree with you Alpherah that this dev unit card will indeed change when full production comes along.

Something like the 6670 would be fine. Can't really compare it to a desktop since the overheads of the OS are so much less, devs can tap as much power as possible from the GPU as well. Something not easily done on a desktop.

Awful. Surely they wont be keeping that.

The xbox and PS3 graphics cards are old now sure, but they were fairly powerful at the time. The 6670 is certainly not powerful now, it is ****.

personally i dont think a 6670 would be powerful enough to last 5-6 yrs

i also think their should be a min of 1gb or ram in the new xbox.

just my 2p

At first I was a little disturbed by the idea. But to be honest it does make sense. It is more powerful than the one the 360 has (which hardly has shoddy graphics), its cheap (cheaper console) and can be cooled very easily (quieter console)

It's not really the graphics that makes me love my xbox, its the ease of use, automagic patches, the party system etc. Sure a gaming PC can do the same and more, but its a hassle, and far more expensive.

As a wishlist:

Bluetooth 4.0
Wifi 802.11ac
1080p 60fps
>= 500GB HD
Integrated Kinect / bundled with console
Fanless / silent, with integrated PSU
Slot load bluray drive
Motion control built into xbox controller as is

Not happening

And it never will. Regardless of the gpu. Developers will sacrifice 60 Fps for better visuals. I would like to see AA and 720p as a minimum though. But I doubt we'll get that either. Its always going to be on the Devs best judgement, regardless of the hardware available.

Doesn't the current 360 have an ATI chip that's basically a X1800XT or something like that inside? I don't see the issue here as they can obviously get a lot out of the hardware.

I don't give a crap what is in the new xbox, so long as it plays whatever game I put in there, and has enough storage for my DLC.

I thought that was the whole point of a console, the freedom of not worrying about the specs and just expecting the games to work!
