Jusrt as simple as adding the top and bottoms together? lol

To be able to add fractions you need the bottom part (The denominator) to be the same in each fraction. To achieve this you can multiply both top and bottom of one of the fractions by the same number.

In this case 1/3 can be rewritten as 2/6 if you multiply both top and bottom by 2

Once you've done this adding the fractions is as simple as adding the top parts (The numerators) together

So 2/6 + 2/6 = 4/6

4/6 can then be simplified by dividing top and bottom by any common factors (in this case you can divide them by 2 to get 2/3)

What course is this and at what uni?

FWIW, you have to have a common denominator before you can add or subtract fractions.

You either know fractions or you dont! simple as that, just because I didnt know isnt a crime or should be poked fun at

Thats the problem with the world we live in now

Nobody said it was a crime, just that we're shocked that someone or your age (and apparently with aims of completing a degree) can't do maths aimed at children whose age is in single digits still.

And as for the problem with the world we live in, we could quite easily turn it around and say the state of some people's education is a "problem with the world we live in". :p

For what it's worth, nightrider, I don't look down on you for not being able to add basic fractions.

Subliminal aura has no ****ing excuse, however.

I didnt go to school much when I was younger, hence why my maths and English suck!

But not knowing fractions is the key to life hey! lol

Am working hard and trying to aim higher in life even though it doesnt come easy.

Keep the insults coming, should knock my confidence for tomorrow
