Hi all, wonder if anyone can help.

I noticed recently that my games were crashing and put it down to an overheating issue which was correct, after installing MSI afterburner everything was ok again. before I installed it the GFX card fan just used to stay at a constant low rpm (couldnt hear it getting louder) this I assumed caused the overheating as after installing MSI Afterburner and setting that to auto the fan started increasing as it got hotter and kept it at acceptable temps and eliminating the crashing.
Soooo.. shouldnt the card do this automatically without having to use MSI? never had this before, is there a setting I have unchecked or something in Nvidia control panel?

Many thanks for any assistance :)

If the card gets too hot, it black screens and the fan goes to 100%. That's only when it gets to 100 degrees though!

Normally the fan would just go to 100 and then maybe the game would crash or freeze. That's without MSI afterburner.

Do you have any warranty on the card?

Thats the thing, before I installed MSI the game used to crash to desktop but the fan would never increase at all neither during play or after the game crashed, just stay at a constant low rpm. After putting MSI on the fan would whirl up during play and down again after going back to desktop, its fixed the crashing issue but do I have to use MSI everytime I play games?

No warranty I think, bought it from MM.

It max's out now at 75 degrees with afterburner on.

that's really odd!

In that case, take the cooler off, clean everything and replace the TIM :)

Maybe a third party cooler?

Yeah was thinking about a 3rd party cooler, just confused as to why the fan doesnt increase automatically when it gets hotter without the need for msi afterburner, thanks for the input.

np :)

It should be increasing. Have you tried different drivers?

EDIT: flicked through nv control panel and can't see anything that would stop the fan increasing.
