*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Here's my powertech dps build...

http://torguild.net/calculator/boun...000000020310000000000000000320320221023232031

As you can see we are quite even (I missed out on the 1k defender + assasin medals)...

With one of us on each side on Voidstar the republic couldn't get past the first set of doors. :p

Let me start by saying this is not about me proving I’m the best I know I am .....
lol jokes
on serious note the only people’s opinions regarding how good I am that I care about are Santa Claus, mommy dearest and the girl I’m kicking out of bed to make me some breakfast the rest can think what they want :P

I am discussing BH Powertch builds

Thank you for the build and a screenshot to show that our builds are not all that far apart on DPS I actually enjoyed that game and had plenty of suicides preventing the bombs last second , in WZ's damage done/DPS is hard to measure as one can spend 90% just standing around guarding/getting killed by being the ball carrier or plunging to your death to prevent that bomb from being placed but nice to see that in that above picture there was a good opportunity to have a fair go on damage done.

That said a fight (referring to a 1 v1 here) is not won just on the amount of DPS one can push out, survival, damage prevention and cunning does.

I have not tried the above build so not much to say beside my theory, the build above is a burst build? Basically burn down your opponent before they you?
My crits if I’m lucky maybe and I stress maybe get 3.5k, average 2k-2.5k, all my damage is instant apart from flamethrower so I seldom stand still.
If some one is at range on higher ground and grapple is on CD I am vulnerable, yet at close range/mid range I shine.

The reasons for me choosing this build are my mobility and interruption capabilities :P
I am a healers/casters worst nightmare. And melee classes find themselves swinging thin air as I kite them doing my mid range damage.

My main selling points are:
6 second interrupt CD and a silence thrown in
10 sec faster CD on my stun is a gem
I move 15% faster all the time
Get a proc where my rail shot is a 100% crit
I get immunity to push back and movement impairing effects for 8 seconds and I move 30% faster every 24 seconds
Stabbing and watching the enemy bleed is just a added bonus :P

The rest we share, and I don’t have to use my shield to get unstuck and can save it to try survive :P

My build might not get those big hits but makes it up in versatility.

Be nice to see a counter from a Pyrotech

Those of you on Niman, are there lots of Imperials running about in open world PvP?

I mean, most servers have an imbalance of far more Imperials than Republic, is it the same on Niman?

I need to pull my finger out and level my main on Niman, but only going to bother if there is lots of Imperials to fight when I do get to 50 :)

I was levelling in Hoth last night and there were quite a few that I kept attacking / kept getting attacked by whilst I was running around the zones. I think I must have come across at least 8 of them whilst I was around there, not sure how that compares really.

This is not directed at you...I totally didn't mean it as a look how great we are post just a comparison of powertech builds to someone who asked and I noticed we happened to be in a warzone together.
About DPS, absolutely there are more factors to winning, and as I don't have time to play warzones all day I play to win for my daily, doing enough DPS to go toe to toe with other classes is important but end of round damage scores are meaningless, yes, it's nice to get the extra medal for 300k but the win is all that matters to me.

I've only been using my Pyrotech build for a couple of days so don't claim to know the class inside out but I'll give it a go...You are right that it's primarily a flame burst build and like you I rarely stand still. In warzones I rely on 4 abilities - Flame burst, Rocket punch, Rail shot and thermal detonator (Incendiary missile is also useful in defending objectives for its DoT but I also have grenades for that.) From range thermal detonator is a good opener as I'm closing in on a target as it does good medium damage or removes any barrier which may negate/block my higher damage abilities. Using flame burst followed by rocket punch usually gives me a free rail shot with a decent chance for a crit in the 3-3.5k range, i've had a couple of 4k hits but they a rare. One of the most unexpected things I found using this build was the lack of heat build-up, with free railshots, heat vent on most railshots and quicker cooldown on rapid venting I've had absolutely no problem with heat management I had on other builds.

I would definitely benefit from a faster cd on quell, a good healer is a problem for me and while I usually grind them down to the point they charge off round a corner to heal I can either follow them and finish them off or ignore them which results in them coming back at me when healed, it can be an annoying distraction from the objective. Immunity also sounds nice in certain situations, hate it when you try and stop a powertech in huttball with stun or grapple them from a distance only to have them shrug it off and cross the line. I will probably give your build a go at some point but I'm enjoying what I have too much to change right now, best thing is smashing Imperial agents/Smugglers, they were the bane of my life as a tank, not being able to shield crits, now I'm able to do the sustained DPS to take them on and for the most part come out on top it still makes me laugh every time, revenge is so very sweet. :D

Mate this 1st humour was directed at all the previous comments not at you , think I need to work on my communication skills, I actually would like to have a serious discussion with you and compare builds

Earlier posts others were moaning and it was directed at that, I was actually thanking you for putting up the pic as it helped me understand dps between our 2 builds :D

I am interested in your comments and hoping you can sell me your build with some input :D

Will read on just wanted to make sure u do not feel any negativity from me as it was not at all intended

Apologies if I offended, tried to be funny but looks like I failed terribly

btw add me to friends, i will be on later this weekend and if you like we can hurt some ppl together, always nice to have a some one along to share in the glory of battle ;)

^^I think I need to work on my communication skills to, that was not aimed at you at all, I was talking to the previous posters. lol ;P

Oki now to the debate.

I rely on 5 abilities, my opener Immolate (this gives me a free rocket punch) as I am closing in, at melee range retractable blade to dot, rocket punch, depending on CD, crit proc and situation rail shot and spam Flame burst till I get 5 stacks “prototype flame thrower” stun and flamethrower, rinse and repeat.

Now not every situation is that easy but that is my ideal burst

I love my interrupts and a few healers survive thanks to grapple and stun, any caster is at an disadvantage as I am quick on the draw and silence their main cast as that is what they do 1st which throws them into a panic and they run around like headless chickens wondering wtf just hapaned :P

Don’t know if you are doing this already but I kite most melee classes just far enough for them being unable to hit me and using Immolate and flame burst to take them down (yet this does create a lot of heat) closing in just long enough to use retractable blade to dot and rocket punch.

My mobility is awesome, how many time do you get thrown off the bridge crossing it to defend or place a bomb, well not thins puppy, hit it and have 8 sec to cross and there is no way I get thrown off :P

My conclusion is that my build will produce a bit less damage but its versatile against all classes.

Now you mentioned agents/Smugglers yes they are my worst foe, if my release is on CD I’m in really big trouble if not release + shield+ self heal +pvp healing potion and hope 4 the best, dono if there is a nerf inc for them but at the mo have to be really sharp, also they can vanish at 10% hp and repeat even if they have a dot, ah well :P

As you like your build I really like mine, one day when I’m all grown up I might spec it but for now Viva Advanced Prototype!!!

Yeah, i really like the vanguard/powertech - a nice skirmisher range class, makes a change between the traditional melle/ranged to have something in between - nice that you are not useless for those ranged "poking" fights.

I find vanguards great in huttball - now I've got harpoon , get loads of kills with it :).

But I have to say - juggernaut as ball carrier is pretty darn epic,

Get knocked off the bridge -> charge right back.

they jumped down, interceed upto a team-mate.

~It's also great to charge at an enemy high up (when you have the ball) - force push him off the edge, charge at another (close to the score know) - instant 5 sec force choke - then hit both defensive CD's (almost invincisble for 8 seconds) while you take a slow walk over the line... scored so many times that way.

Found a sneaky datacron earlier so recorded the location on Nar Shadaa, it's a strength one and +3 so a worthy find. Just uploading the vid now so will post it in a bit.

Was there every any official response about the Taris slowdown bug(s)?

What I mean is if you stand in the main Toxic station landing area (Imp) for a few minutes, facing the station, some horrendous lag kicks in. I believe it was worse than this until very recently. The planet in general caused many crashes for people.

For me, outside of the station issue, the planet is butter smooth. In fact I recall being impressed by how well it ran given all the super huge structures being drawn. The other planets had many graphical black spots despite looking relatively barren.

Our world Ilum PvP run from 2/3 days back my first ever go at making a video as Blounty normally does it for us.

made a **** of up of the end, the final frame should have shown our web address, but somehow I left it at the start!

Also forget to do it full screen for HD quality, and sorry about me yapping all the time, another error, it only recorded my voice for some reason but will do the next one better!

Can anyone give advice on best place to buy a key online for this? I have a copy of the media from a friend and know I can get retail for around £36 delivered but dont feel the need for my own media and dont want to pay the £44.99 on SWTOR.com for a key.

So tempted to get this going tonight rather than STO!

lol m8 you cannot compare this to STO, sto for me was the worst MMO I ever played ...bar none!, I got in 3 days early and canceled, my order 2 days later..I would say go for the DDE on line version.

Not a very good Ilum run tonight only had around 14 Immortals, so even tho we got a decent share of the kills we definitely did not win this one :p

On another note look we famous! Torwars
