I once posted a rant thread about the cost of a packet of McCoys in the Spar shop local to work and swore I'd never start such a frivolous thread again, but having just frequented the very same store and seen a standard size packet of Hula Hoops for 82p, I just couldn't contain my disgust!!

This was a bog-standard size bag, not one of your huge grab-bag bags, and it was EIGHTY TWO ******* PENCE!!!!!:mad::mad:

These are the relatively small packets that should cost about 30p max imo!!!!!

Rip-off merchants!!!!

*rant over, blood pressure returning to normal* :p

Spar is quite expensive. I've never seen one of their shops in areas with the big supermarkets around (e.g. Tesco). Which is probably why they charge such prices; no other shops/limited range of other shops, to purchase goods from.

Bit like my local shop here, $2 for a mars ice cream, $1 for a packet of crisps. Caans have gone up from $0.40 to $0.60 in about 2 months. Damn annoying!

I like to feel that air of exclusivity when I shop in Spa, confident that the riffraff are priced out of the shop. This is well worth paying the premium for. Can't afford it....go to a co-op.

Okay, just got back from the Spar and the OP's pretty much bang on right.

Hoola Hoops standard size is 83p over here.

Walkers standard size is 59p or 2 for 90p and grab bag size is 88p.

I'm fine with my Spar though. Just 1-2 minutes walk away, good for grabbing essential bread/milk/butter, and their own brands are reasonably cheap. E.g. 2L diet lemonade for £1. Plus, they do promotions on branded stuff periodically.

Wow, your spar even charges in $ even though you are in Liverpool. I bought my GF a Turkish delight and I think they charged me about £1 and I said "no, I only want one". Last time I treat my GF to anything.

:D

I'm in Afghan :p lol. We only have the one shop available to us, and they charge different amounts on different bases around here, which is a bit crappy.

Got a Spar literally down the road from us, and there always used to be people in and out.

Tesco Express opened up across the road....Spar seems awfully quiet now!
