BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

p2p i cant even get 1meg down between say 4-12pm, youtube and games etc run full pelt

Ah ok, only asking because at my step-dad's on his 8mb adsl, I can barely get 100kb/s down on that during peak times.

A friends of mine is having BT Infinity installed tomorrow, so I'm going to pop over and see how it is :)

Similar result to you guys here on the checker. Says 40/20. Only says 40/10 on the BT website though.

Actually haven't got round to unlocking my modem yet. Must do that sometime :D

Hi Guys

Can someone help me out with this query? Been emailing my ISP today as my initial 10 days after getting FTTC has now ceased and my results are still very up and down for example today I've had results varying from 1.98 mbps all the way up to 34.00 mbps. I've explained that surely there shouldn't be this much fluctuation even taking into consideration peak times and local contention.

I'm also of the opinion that much like if you have ADSL you shouldn't be experiencing dial up speeds the fact I've got an FTTC service surely I shouldn't be experiencing the low end of ADSL speeds?

Is there anyone else that consistently gets as varied results as I seem to be? I dont want to give my ISP a hard time as I used to work with them but at the same time am I unreasonable to expect I should be getting at least 15ish mbps at all times with a best possible 31+?

Tried that. Says nothing about FTTC. My exchange is enabled but nothing about when my cabinet will be.

You're one of the lucky ones.

Count yourself lucky. My exchange has been enabled for months. It's just the cabinet on our street that hasn't. After much research BT finally admitted we were missed because there were not enough houses connected to the box to make it worth their while, even though there are 60+ houses in our estate! Cheers for that BT!!

I suppose what this means is that we will be at 'zee bottom of zee whole world', (kudos if you know what that's a quote from btw!), to be upgraded. Worst thing is until BT get their finger out there is absolutely nothing we can do to change this. It's made even more galling as our present broadband is crap. 250kbs max for me!

There's a minimum speed for BT Infinity as far as I know, it's something like a guaranteed 15Mbps or they consider it a fault. Can't for the life of me remember where I read that though.

It works fine. What's the issue? If you don't reboot your router/modem then just tap in your IP and it will stay the same for a while, long enough to get an idea of how your connection is performing anyway.

Create a broadband quality monitor.

Just to follow up, install went great today. The engineer was a bit wet behind the ears, but after I showed him the mess the previous occupant of our house had made, and explained to him how to best move & connect my master socket he was happy to oblige :D

I ran a speed test earlier this afternoon which reported a blistering 40 down, 2 up. However, it's now dropped to just 5 down (I'm connected directly to the hub with a cable). Is this the normal peak hours contention kicking in? :(

I have no issue, but I'm contemplating switching to Infinity from Virgin and I'd like to see some BT Infinity TBB quality graphs.

hmm well, speedtest's can be up and down, i run them occasionally and get anywhere between 17mbps and 37 mbps depending on time of day, but even when i have had a low speedtest my newsgroups still run at the full 37mbps, never had anything less than full speed on newsgroups.
