Which captain do you prefer and why?


For me it has to be Picard as TNG was what was on when I was a teenager.

Archer was never meant to be the captain of a ship, christ even the intro would make any one defect to the xindi lol. Though i'm going to go with Janeway for the vote as it was the first female for the leading role of a star trek ship . Plus she can act!

Probably Jean Luc for me. Deep Space Nine is my favourite series, although Sisko would probably be 3rd in my list, with Janeway/Archer at the bottom

Interesting, most of the time when this comes up Sisko is one of the favorites and Janeway is the one everyone hates

Janeway for me, although Picard was special too. They are all fairly solid, even if Sisko was a bit of a ham sometimes
But if I had to follow anyone, it would be the ECH

For actual performance, abilities and character it has to be Sisko - he's the only one of the "captains" who really developed over the run of his series imo.

For Acting it's got to be Picard

For fun it's got to be Kirk


Sisko was imo the most rounded and fleshed out of the Captains, with the most development over his run.

Picard was sort of the Serious guy you could rely on when you had a problem, but suffered from preachy storylines and NG had a bad case of "reset and restart" in terms of stories (it was rare for things in one episode to have any influence on later ones most of the time).

Kirk was all too reliant on luck a lot of the time, and fairly flat in the TV series.

Janeway, stiff and basically willing sacrifice crew to keep to the rules a lot of the time.

Archer - meh


Oddly enough I prefer TOS and even Enterprise to NG.
