I apologise if this has been discussed before.

With the release of the 7970 and the 7950, I'm just wondering whether there is any news on when we can expect the arrival of the 7800 line of cards.

Thanks

By all accounts they will be around 6970\6950 performance and quite possibly more expensive. I would wait for them to appear and then maybe pick up a cheap 6970\50, maybe. LOL :D

It's looking like it's the other way round now:
The 7900 series are AMD's top end!
The 6900 series is now the upper mid-range!
The 7800 series shall be the mid-range and priced as such.
The 7700 series shall be the lower mid-range.
The 6700/6600 series are mainstream!

That will be the reason 69**'s are holding their price.

Thanks for the replies,

I'm itching to upgrade my 1GB 4870 to something newer.

I was hoping for the 7870 if the pricing/performance are reasonable as I cannot stretch to a 7950/70.

I was considering a 6950 but if the 7800's are due in march I think as suggested above i'll wait until they surface and decide from there.

Thanks again.

+1 I'm happy with my 5850 at the moment but these 7800's look like they may steal the "bang for buck" crown from the 5850 which originally came out around the same price that is pencilled in for the 7870 (£250 hopefully)....

Have been looking at the 6950/70's in the MM but the release of the 7800 series may push a change in pricing from both AMD and NVIDIA (hopefully).

Cannot see the 7800's stealing any bang for buck crowns. The 5850 was a stunning card, offering 80% of GTX480 performance for half of the price. I cannot see the 7800 offering 80% of 7970 performance for half of the price (even at current 7970 overpricing).
