Seems T-mobile have launched something of a rival to Three's all you can eat plans. Except it costs more, and we know that with T-mobile unlimited data means stuck at either 3G speeds (0.35Mbps) or HSDPA (2Mbps)

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out, after they were forced to cut short their previous 'unlimited' campaign offer as it breached advertising standards.

Yep, read this earlier - and I have just jumped ship to Three, entirely down to woeful speeds on Tmobile.
Had a Tmobile contract for close to 8yrs, after circa. 10yrs on Orange, and never really been one to change, but the whole up/download speed thing has really annoyed me. I don't tend to use that much data, usually between 300-800MB/month, so amount of data is not important to me, but I appreciate the speed !
Tmobile contract expired on 27th, I swapped into the cheapest 30-day Sim-only they had (£10.21/month) and immediately signed up for 12-month Sim-only 600 (1GB) on Three @ £12/month......£83.83 TopCashback has tracked, the PAC/Port is happening tomorrow, and - after everything this will work out as approx. £5/month (12x £12 - cashback)...

Anyway, back on topic, £36 (min) per month does not sound that good a price, compared to Three.......and there is no mention about speed, so likely Unlimited in consumption, but still limited in bandwidth = Fail !

Stilllllll, all that said, if Three does not have coverage where you need it, I guess it at least gives options :)

Mine runs at 7.2Mbps, but by the sounds of it I've got lucky. One reason I don't want to get rid of the sim card!

Best I ever got, whatever location, via Speedtest was between 8-900kbps download.....upload circa. 3-500kbps :(
With the new Three SIM, only run the one test today....3734kbps down, 1572kbps up !
Some difference.....
 
Fastest i've had is over 6Mbps, but that's only because I was due to begin legal proceedings against them and they settled out of court.

Even when the downstream is poor, I find upstream is regulary 2Mbps or more.
 
I was quite happy with tmobile speeds, but i guess that is because we get 0.5Mbit wired broadband at home.

H always seemed very quick. Only reason i left was because they didnt have nexus.
Coverage was great, especially H, it meant at home mobile net was quicker than wired.

But i thought coverage was a non issue cause 3/tmobile/orange share now?
 
Never knew that about Tmobile, been with them for years but have noticed recently the internet is very slow.

Might look at another network now then...

Phone them up, don't change for this reason. It is relativly easy to have the block taken off your sim.

Mines works fine and is more than quick enough.

T-mobile are simply the best network I have ever been with.

Signed up to the "truly unlimited package" turns out it wasn't "truly unlimited." as they restricted HSDPA speeds to just 2Mbps, unless you pay an extra £5 per month. On some other contracts they restrict to 3G speeds 0.35Mbps

They confirmed the restriction, and i argued misrepresentation, as it was the "truly unlimited" claim that induced me into the contract.

Funnily enough, at around the same time i was arguing my case, T-mobile were being investigated by the Advertising Standards Authority. The result of that was that the phrase "truly unlimited" was an extraordinarily bold claim, and that T-mobiles plan fell short of that claim as it included limits i.e tethering and video calls. Interestingly these two were listed in the terms and conditions, the speed cap was not, and T-mobile denied there was one for a long time.

It was held that that the ads were misleading, and as such they were ordered to be removed.

I used this judgement as evidence in my claim against them.

They eventually agreed to remove all restrictions on the account. Immediately my speed shot up from a capped 2Mbps to over 5Mbps. And upload speeds are usually over 2Mbps, which is the most noticeable when uploading pictures or videos on-line, or making video calls etc..
 
I was just offered this on upgrade with a free Lumia 800 on the £36 plan, but I lose my 50% discount on it.

They told me it has no FUP, and unlimited tethering too, so I'm researching it a bit and will get it instead. I'll try and convince them to let me keep my discount though, but I dont think they will let me on this.

Yea I went ahead and took the £36 full monty on a free Cyan Lumia 800, it was in stock too so I'll have it tomorrow.

My internet speeds on T Mobile are good enough for downloading my steam games and playing MMOs so I'm happy with that, and I'd rather stick to their fantastic customer service than switch over to 3.

I've actually discussed this time and time again with different customer support people at T Mobile, the problem is that if T Mobile do put a cap on download speeds, no one in the customer support team can see it nor are aware of it. The caps are placed on every account with T Mobile, and I always thought it was due to the network not supporting anything higher, but I will look into this some more with the new price plan.

I spoke to two people for the upgrade and both told me that there are no restrictions of any kind on the data of the £36 full monty plan, and I've been with T Mob now for 6-7 years and every year their customer service is unmatchable by 3, Orange, Vodaphone or O2, so I wouldnt change to 3 instead of this.

Yes I don't think even level 2 tech support are aware of the caps. At one stage for some odd reason my complaint went all the way to Germany for the speed issues to be looked into.

I think there is a guy on here who works for Orange, who explained how the system works.

Basically it's a big database and depending on your plan and boosters, certain permissions are turned on or off in the database.
 
I was told that the Full Monty £36 plan has no kind of caps whatsoever, so I will check my speeds and complain if they are still slow.
 
interesting. i was looking at some cheap t-mobile deals for the Lumia 800 and noticed it came with unlimited internet which seemed great as the deal was for 300 mins and 300 texts.

So are speeds on the capped deals not very fast? I mainly use mine for youtube, emails and fbook - not sure what my current speeds are but they seem pretty good on o2.
 
Android contracts are not capped speed wise.

Generic Smart Phone contracts are capped speed wise.

.. but to throw a spanner into the works - not all contracts issued with android phones are what T-mobile class as 'android contracts' on their DB.

0.35Mbps seems to be the initial cap. Get it removed and you then get a 2Mbps - Doesn't seem to apply to those on contracts with Fair use policies though, I could be wrong.

I was told that I could give up my No FUP to gain higher speeds. I promptly told them where to shove it.
