Benefits cap

His attitude towards why he needs luxuries really annoys me. He states that both he and his wife have mobiles, as well as his children. He claims that there'll be hell if he stops his kids mobiles but what about his own and his wives?

I say bring back food vouchers that could only be spent on food and soft drink. Include some cash in the benefits for other things, but the bulk of the benefit should consist of vouchers. If they can't afford booze with the left over cash, then they can just learn how to make it yourself. They might even get a job thanks to their home brewing. I did!

Per person for per-household?.

Do you think a family of 4 with a disabled child could live on 14k PA (if they had to pay rent/council tax).
A disabled child should get whatever benefits they require to give them an adequate lifestyle. What shouldn't happen is for poor working people on minimum wage to have to pay taxes to support those who are fit to work, but aren't willing to. It's morally repugnant.

A bit of beam, I know but my Bro's been on invalidity for almost 28 years, this doesn't stop him driving a new car which he gets every 3 years the only thing he pays for is petrol, no repair costs, no insurance cost's no road tax to pay, just petrol. Amazingly his disability wasn't an issue when he wanted to borrow the garage at my house to change the clutch in his mates car, too many prying eyes he said where I live. I told him to push off, no chance.

JC he's better off than I am although I've worked in pretty good jobs all my life, even though now we are both retired his benefits are worth more than my state pension & 2 private one's too.

Benefits cap. Bring it on

Exactly, we are not talking about disabled children etc, of course they should all get what they need. This is about lazy people who don't want to work and get paid more then the average working family while still popping out kids each year.

if you cannot afford large amounts of children then don't have them, my only concern with this cap is for the genuine family's that have found themselves suddenly without work and needing to keep paying for their family's when looking for another job, these people could afford children when they started having them. you can't tar these sort of people with the same brush, instead of a blanket 26k I believe they should do a tear system, it should be based on contribution, so a family of 2 parents that have been working for 20 years and suddenly find themselves on the Dole should be able to look after their larger family's until finding another job and the parts of society that have never worked and therefore only.contributed the amount of national insurance that the Dole pays and not contributed any taxes should be capped and made to work. only issue is that if more of these Dole scroungers are forced to work their will be less jobs for the people who actually want them.

Says Ray: "The market for my skills dried up 10 years ago - there's a total lack of work in my area of expertise."

So that is it, is it? No thought of maybe retraining in something else?

His stupidity makes my blood boil.

I'm all for it, they should've done it years ago. Like others have said, don't have kids of you're on the dole. This reminds me strangely of something I heard on the radio while on the bus to Stansted... something about a guy looking for a job in his field for thirteen years. The radio guy flatly asked him why he's not thought of doing something else if it's that difficult. Spot on...

I think the entire system is a complete joke. These people get paid more sitting on their butts all day than a lot of us do for doing a fulltime job. And now their complaining that 26k isnt ENOUGH?! God it makes me sick to my stomach.

They should cut these people off cold turkey. No benefits. No houses. Toss them into the damn street and let nature sort them out. They wont be such a blight to society when their all dead in the gutters.

Then isn't part of the solution to decrease the tax burdon on the working classes anyway.

I'd be happy to pay a little more tax to ease the burdon of the working poor - better in my opinion that creating an underclass & real poverty in the UK - along with the crime & social problems that will come with it.

It's cheaper to give people benefits than it is to put them in prison.

Similar view to me tbh :o

If you're disabled, then fair enough.

but the majorit of people are just milking the system for all it's worth, spending their 'FREE' money on any old luxuary. Whilst the average Joe works his or hers Ass off to pay for the Scrotes. Absolute joke.

Personally I am all for if you can't afford kids, don't have them. I know this is seen as unpopular

I don't think it's seen as unpopular, more a case of not being practical. The only way that has been proven to stop the human race from breeding is to increase prosperity. The poorer people are, the more kids they tend to have - see Britain before the welfare state came into existence.

This subject has been discussed in Speaker's Corner. It's worth mentioning that the £26k a year cap will only affect a handful of families. The notion that everyone on benefits is living a life of luxury is wrong, for most it's a thoroughly miserable existence.

Let's hope for some reason you don't lose your job ey.

Thankfully most of us are a little more civilised & would't let that happen to you - despite your failings.

Also, do you know the difference between average wage & average house-hold income?.

Finally, you do know that virtually nobody is on that kind of money - only LARGE familys with somebody WORKING & claiming tax credits with disabled members.

The average dole dosser get's 3k PA for JSA - woot the party lifestyle they must leave.

I'll keep my job thanks.

I must say, those in power have done a great job of turning the working poor against the out of work poor.

While they run off with all the money - it would be comical if it wasn't so tragic.

I've been on unemployment benefits before. And also incapacity benefit for a couple of years for health reasons. So I cant claim to be a saint.

But the difference is I didnt blow what little money I had coming in on frivolities. I didnt spend it on booze, fags or drugs. Not a single penny! If I lost my job again I would adjust my lifestyle accordingly. I would tighten my belt and stretch my money as far as possible, all the while searching for a new job to get myself back outta the welfare system and back into having disposable income thats EARNED and DESERVED!

If these people could say the same as me then I would have no issue with them at all. But they cant. Their pigs happy to wallow in their own **** and bleed the taxpayer dry to fund their pampered little lives.

I like his 'my wife tried to stop smoking but got kicked off the course' comment. Well that's dandy but the NHS provide lots of free stop smoking solutions so why don't you try again!

Also, there are probably lots of skills that are no in demand from 10 years ago, that is why you continue training and growing!

Maybe I am getting grumpy as I get older but this article really annoyed me.

I think there's something very wrong with society if we bribe people not to break the law with benefits.

I hear that the best way to stop smoking is to not have enough money to fund a habit. Also, its a hell of a lot easier to give something like that up when you are not sitting at home all day doing sweet FA.
