Help me talk my folks out of going with TalkTalk.

You won't get many problems until you want to leave. I left because my connection was getting bad. But the real problems start when they keep billing you year after year :)

I've not had a problem with them really *touch wood*

Pretty much my experience with them. Btw I think I recognise your username, was I your Secret Santa the year before last? :D

Anyway, I've been with them 3 years now and have no complaints with regards to speed, reliability or billing. Even moving house was fine and took around 3 weeks or so to get me hooked up again - they even waived the Home Movers Fee of £69.99 iirc.

I've not had reason to use their support much but from what I hear their forums are good but the phone support can be poor. That said I had no problems when I moved house (I think you can only use phone support for this) and they even texted me updates during the process.

Having said that I suppose for every happy customer there are others with a horror story.

No issues what so ever here with Talk talk, occasionaly the small router drops out, but a quick restart of it sorts that.

We stream videos constantly through the wii, so that's wireless as well.

Free evening and weekend calls, 'unlimited' broadband all for ~£20 a month. Not been charged anything extra yet, and we stream a lot of TV.

I still get a bill each year, even though I have not been with them for about 3 years. So every year I have to phone up and explain my contract was up ages ago :) Which takes forever and if they charge for phone calls they get the amount anyway :)

This is the same as us. However we never even opened a contract with them. Small claims court sorted that. :)- Yes we won against Talk Talk xD

I signed up with a 24 month Opal contract (via Nildram when I moved home) which are owned by talk talk now. Any way it has been 16 months without any problems at all and they phoned me today to ask if I would change my line rental to them to save me £5 a month (currently with BT).

I politely declined as I heard they have a bad reputation. They said I would have to start another 24 month contract too :/ lol.

Out of the ones I've been with I'd rate Talktalk the worst in this order :

BEthere
BT
Demon
02
Pipex
Talktalk

From memory several dropouts, stupid caps and useless customer service/technical support. Although to be fair I haven't come across an ISP who has decent customer service.

Ah customer service I know of the best ISP for that. o2, they really do have great support.

I have tried lots of ISP's, for my area BT has been the best for me. It all depends where you are and what lines you have I guess.

EDIT: I see you have o2 down as being a little bad, hmmmmm. I always thought they were pretty good on the support side. Least they speak English, I can never understand those Indian call centers for some reason. I am always Sorry?? What?? Can you repeat that??? I have bad ears I think

When you sign up to talktalk, don't you agree that they 'own' your phone line, and if you want to go with any other supplier, you have to buy the line back or something like that?

correct me if im wrong

You know what, you saying that. I had one hell of a job getting sky to take the phone calls line after being with talk talk. They kept saying talk talk still had the line and they could not get the line from them. In the end I had to leave sky for that reason and goto BT direct. Not looked back since.

Sky just could not get the line over to them for some odd reason.

Been with Talk Talk for two years, had a couple of issues with the initial setup (placed on the wrong net package) but once sorted it's been flawless since then with probably less than 4 hours of downtime (two outages iirc).

I switched to Talk Talk a few years back when they offered me a great deal. I duly signed up and they left me with no phone connection for nearly three weeks. I very quickly binned them after that.

That was exactly the reason I went elsewhere.

Had TalkTalk for around 5-6 years now and not had one problem. We get the speeds that we've paid for and I can't ever remember internet cutting out or anything.
