How hard is it to obtain a pump-action shotgun (legally?)

Lately I have become increasingly concerned with the possibility of zombie-apocalypse, and don't think I'll ever feel safe until I have a loaded pump-action shotgun beneath my bed.

Can this be done legally, or should I turn to ebay/craigslist? :confused:
 
well firstly you realise zombies aren't real?

I don't think that pump action shotguns are legal in the UK, the best you would get is double barreled.
secondly you can't keep it under your bed, you will need to keep it locked in a cabinet, and you probably wouldn't get a licence if you live in a city.

thirdly if there is civil unrest are you really going to go out and start killing people, or do you really just want one 'cos it's cool' and you saw it on the movies?
 
You can hold one on a shotgun certificate IIRC, as long as it has a maximum magazine capacity of 2. Anything else requires a FAC. I can't bring mine to the UK because of this :(

You can apply for a shotgun licence legally, yet you need a very good reason for one to begin with and I don't think "personal defence against zombies" would stack up really. Best bet is to get in touch with your local PCSO and get proper advisement on your suitability for such a licence. My sister is a PCSO and can assess people for shotgun licences.

Once you have the licence, getting the gun is the easy bit.
 
zombies are gonna be real some day, but knifes/sharp edged weapons will be better. Guns attract huge sound.

Best bet for ranged weapons is a crossbow. Take a 9mm silenced pistol around with you for the oh **** moments, deals hardly any sound with the muzzle. Will still have flash though (unless you can stack a flash muzzle with a silencer?)
 
You can get suppressors for shotguns, a friend of mine has numerous rifles and shotguns and most of his have one on. You have to have a good reason to have suppressors added to your license though (and I think you have to apply for each weapon too).
 
It's quite easy. Make sure you comply with the regulations for storing a gun and the police will have to come up with a good reason to deny you a license. You will need a reasonable explanation for having a shotgun, like blasting bunnies or something so don't start talking about zombies.

You can have a gun that holds up to three shells iirc.

Yes they have very very good hearing. A 9mm pistol with a silencer is nowhere near quiet enough. The only decent firearm would be a .22 rifle with silencer but you should seek a crossbow over that. The only time a shotgun becomes useful is as a last resort if zombies breach your house and you are fighting a large group in a confined space like a corridor.

Not difficult as long as your not nuts or live in some sink estate, they are more strict the closer you get to built up areas, in the shires it's very easy, why do you want a shotgun sir? clays / game / vermin, where's your cabinet? here it is bolted to the wall (you don't actually need one but they like it) not many 12g's are suppressed mainly 410's for rats.

Shotgun Certificate is easy everyone can have the police have to have a good reason not to give you one, FAC is the other way round you have to have a good reason to want one even down to a reason for every firearm you want, it's difficult to own lots just because 'I like guns'

Pumps and autos will take one in the chamber and two in the magazine tube on a shotgun licence any more will need an FAC

You can't be that naive to not see that anything is possible in the future? Do you know what will happen the next day? Can you see the future?

Who knows, what kind of virus's and diseases there will be in the future that could make us do crazy stuff to people.

Don't think it ever happen through, but since I can't see the future, who knows what could happen or be made.
 
No reason is needed for a shotgun certificate, although your FEO (firearms enquiry officer) will no doubt ask you anyway. A simple answer of 'clay pigeon shooting' will suffice.
You'll need a lockable cabinet/safe to store it in which must be bolted to a solid wall and out of plain sight.
You'll need to disclose any previous offences (no matter how minor, 3 pts for speeding etc) and give permission for your gp to be approached, medical records etc.
You'll then need someone of good standing (doctor, lawyer etc) to be your referee to vouch for you and also sign the back of your passport photos to say they are a true likeness of you.

Once all that is done your FEO will come out and visit you at home, informal interview, make sure you know the rules about shotgun ownership (carrying it in public, transporting etc) they will also check your security arrangements and make sure your safe is secure.
Few weeks later you should hopefully have your shotgun cert and you can go shopping!
You can have single barrel, double (side by side, over & under) pump action, semi auto etc but the magazine must not hold more than 2 carts (and one in the breech - 2+1)
It must be minimum 40" length and barrel no shorter than 24".
Pistol grips, rails, laser dot sight etc are all fine.

Whatever you do...do NOT mention home defence, zombie invasion etc as reasons to want one. You'll be refused and probably referred for psychiatric treatment.

Some things are simply impossible under current science, zombies included.

You do know that zombies are in fact real right? They might not be the same versions as you see in the Day of the Dead, but they still zombies or slaves for that matter.

Also, how do you know it's impossible, are you God? Do you know everything that known and unknown science can do and can't do? If so, call me a prophet and let me a start up a religion that worships your all knowing self.

I'm not worried, am just replying to a post.
