I'm arguing with my friend about this job.

I said nobody without the relevant experience could possibly get it and there's no way they'd pay a newbie graduate £40k.

I know certain graduate professions in London can pay £30k eg law/finance, but £40k in retail, outside London, day one??

Out of the 12,000 that apply... At least one will have what they are looking for...

Edit: Now I just need to decide whether to continue doing my PhD or go for this :p

They will pay £40,000 per year.

However you'll probably have to work 90 hours a week, doing shifts, in some god forsaken town somewhere, moving at a days notice.

We assume no previous retail experience as the training we provide will comprehensively equip you for the role. So whilst we don’t expect you to come armed with lots of retail experience, whatever you have could serve you well. We’re interested, so tell us about it. Your recruitment is influenced by your attitude, approach and a desire to absorb the Aldi culture and systems. We’ll then train you in the skills you need to succeed.

Wasn't there a story recently that all the store managers at Aldi get Audi's (lol) as company cars? apparently their managers get paid really well

Aldi are fairly well known for a good starting pay and company car for their more senior positions.

I doesn't say you have to be a recent graduate.

There's no harm in applying, as a 'new' graduate, if you think you've got what it takes. But yes, they will almost certainly expect to fill the position with someone who has some previous experience in a similar role.

So you’ll really need to be brighter, sharper and more self-assured to stand out. And you’ll also be able to show extraordinary levels of drive, determination and entrepreneurial zeal.

They make it sound like you have got to be Albert Einstein before they will even consider you. :D

had a mate who worked for these guys about 8 years ago, they chewed him up and spat him out.

Aldi look for naive, overconfident wannabees who are prepared to try and prove themselves by working themselves to death for 12 months.

That sounds more realistic.

I also wish people would take into account the hours they work when thinking of if a job pays well, a 40k PA job with 70 hours work per week isn't that great.

It's legit.

They have loads of applications and a very few places. The job itself is really high pressure and you work really hard: as a result they have a massive rate of turnover of staff, hence the high pay.
