How hard is it to obtain a pump-action shotgun (legally?)

Put down that crackpipe son, seriously...

You can apply for a shotgun licence legally, yet you need a very good reason for one to begin with and I don't think "personal defence against zombies" would stack up really. Best bet is to get in touch with your local PCSO and get proper advisement on your suitability for such a licence. My sister is a PCSO and can assess people for shotgun licences.

Once you have the licence, getting the gun is the easy bit.

As a SGC holder i can tell you, you dont need a very good reason to hold a SGC, I use mine for rough shooting and for clays, but you would have to be mentally ill or have a criminal record not to get a SGC. You HAVE to have a very good reason for wanting an FAC though, including being a member of an approved gun club.

Sort of a thread hijack...

Can any of the gun buffs tell me if there is a modification I can get for my Remington 870 Express (28") that can reduce the magazine capacity to 2? It currently holds 5 and I want to bring it to the UK and I don't want the hassle of a FAC. I've asked at a few gun shops in the US but they aren't sure of the UK's legal requirements.

I'd want a semi auto rifle like a Remington R-15 etc. Good .223 calibre, could be used with military ammo as well (5.56). Packs a good punch, incredibly accurate and simple.

Oh wait, we live in the UK. :(

Just say in the US? That'd be my desire. :D

Rubbish a .22 can destroy a human brain with a headshot as well as a .308 and it has less recoil and lighter ammunition and weapon. In a zombocalypse anything heavier will be worse. The only reason military and hunters use bigger ammunition is because they require body shots to be lethal, on a zombie a body shot will never be lethal so better to have more ammo of an easier to fire round that is equally effective with a headshot.

.22 is the thinking mans ammunition of choice in the event of zombocalypse. But if you want to use a .308 feel free to use them and die :p

Indeed, actually the .22 is the Mafia's bullet/round of choice as it has enough power to enter the skull but not enough to exit so it bounces about inside making mince meat of the victims brains

That said they aren't as much fun to shoot as higher caliber rounds.

Fixed for you ;)

If you are really lucky and know the right people u "may" find the glock but i can pretty much guarnatee you would not come acrross either of the other 2 . Unless very rich and very well connected and if that was the case you would have no need of them ;)

Scusi the greif of bringing that over here and getting a uk tube for it etc and time / hassle / cost you maye as well just buy what you want over here . Semi autos are not that expensive here due to not really being used for clays and not "cricket" by the gentry .

Also as mentioned before the police have to give a good reason why not to give you a shotgun but you have to give them a good reason to have a firearm .. But you dont have to be a member of a club

So you're saying it's perfectly reasonable for a corpse get up, walk and hunger for flesh but hearing is out of the question?

WHAT are you on son??

As the great philosopher Rajesh Koothrappali muses...

Here’s what I wonder about zombies... What happens if they can’t get any human flesh to eat? They can’t starve to death, they’re already dead.

Nope, you don't need to be a club member if you're after it purely for rural reasons.

I'm not aware of anything off the top of my head Scuzi. The issue you have is that you'd need to make it a non-reversible modification in order for the authorities to be content. The only thing I could suggest would possibly be getting in touch with a Proof House that deactivates rifles, and see if they have had experience of anything like this with a shotgun.

if the zombies did come and you havent got time two bit of pipe screw in one end and bang shotgunnnnnnnnnnn . dont try this at home kids
