Wisdom tooth

I have 4 wisdom teeth, the last of which is almost through now.
They bottom ones swelled up badly and hurt a lot.
Under the 'nice' regulations you can't just pull a wisdom tooth out anymore. There has to be a medical reason to do so.

I never even felt it.

Also I can open my mouth nice and wide so getting the pliers in was easy.

Mine keep causing me trouble, on antibiotics at the min due to the gum above one being inflamed.

Dentist has said I can have them removed if I want due to reoccurring issues but they are all coming out at odd angles and extremely hard to reach so might be worth leaving a bit longer to see if they calm down.

Damn my small jaw!

I had one out recently came in at a terrible angle and was pushing another one of my teeth up so when i bit it was really painful, ended up having both of them teeth out since the wisdom tooth messed up the other one.

Either way having it out is pretty painless, had it done at the dentists didn't take too long at all. Best think to do is consult your dentist they will know best.

Now I admit im 34 and had my wisdom teeth pulled like ages ago (15+ years ago), but has the rules changed or something?

I can remember getting xrays in Yatton, then a day or two later I was in a dentist in Backwell getting pulled.

Aye, 4 here too. Give me pain and the odd gum bleed every six months - year, but it doesn't last and I'd rather not have them out

My last wisdom tooth that I had out the anaesthetic didn't take effect. Had 2 more injections. Could still feel everything but the dentist decided to carry on anyway.

I manned up and went back to work straight afterwards. Never had a problem afterwards either.

OP it all depends on the layout of your mouth...more specifically where the nerves are.

I had a dodgy wisdom tooth that had to come out. There was an infection in it which was causing pain so the dentist wanted to take it out.

Bearing in mind it was very painful to bite down on, taking it out probably wasn't the best idea...they numbed the area which did absolutely nothing and tried to get it out, and unfortunately I yowled...

So they gave me antibiotics and sent me home. When I went back to have another go when the infection was cleared up I was told I wouldn't feel a thing...six injections to numb it later and they had another go and I got the most excruciating pain shooting into my temple from my tooth.

They had to stop and refer me to the hospital to have it out under a general. When they did the x-ray they said the nerves are close to the teeth, especially on the lower jaw...they have to be careful there if I ever need anything out (extraction was from the upper jaw) as it could cause partial facial paralysis...hope those teeth stay OK!

In short...I had to have a general as it was too painful, but my missus had one out and didn't feel a thing.

They don't yank them out by the way, the push down and then press to the side which pops it out apparently - probably why it hurt so much for me, pushing right on the nerve!

Good luck!

When my bottom wisdom teeth came through. I used to get a pain up the sides of my face and in my temples. The dentist said it was because the tooth was impacting on a nerve, and there also wasnt enough room for them to come through. So I got reffered to the hospital to have them out under local anasthetic.

when i saw the dentist at the hospital, he said it had to be done one at a time under local anasthetic, which was a bit scary as Id never had anything done, not even a filling and was starting with a tooth extraction, awake.
About a week later I got a call from the hospital saying the surgeon had free theatre time if I could do it at short notice. I agreed, and went for my pre op. The surgeon said he had already looked at my notes, and that the previous dentist was "an idiot" and that he had already booked me to have it done under a GA at a private hospital the next day.

When i woke up, my face was VERY numb to the point i couldnt speak or eat. I decided to rinse my mouth out when i got home. Apparently this is NOT to be done.
All was well the first night, till i woke up with the worst pain in the world which went on for 2 solid days of no sleep, and when I went back to the hospital it turned out i had flushed away the clot that seals it, and ended up with something called "dry socket" which was painless again after the surgeon packed it.

So as long as you dont rinse your mouth you should be fine!

I had to have all 4 out under general anaesthetic, as they were growing into my other teeth (horizontal) and required a bit of jaw bone removing too.

Luckily I have no swelling or pain at all, but the 6 other people in the ward with me looked like hamsters and were constantly whining.

I hate that! when I had my sistrunk procedure they made me stay in for days even though I was fine, just because other people whine.

(though i should have listened as I ended up with burst stitches the day I got home from not resting enugh :o )

All mine are growing horizontal, I welcome them, what is up with the people on here, I thought I was communicating with real men.

Try coping with an abscess on a molar and having to have it taken out, damn that hurt so much!

try having one in your neck, growing through a bone, and having to have your neck cut open, and the bone chopped into three parts and the middle bit taken away, along with a load of ducts from your neck.

then your wound rupturing.

THAT hurts!

whiny baby :p
