Time to Renew Anti Virus License, Stick with Bullguard?

Hi everyone, Its that time of year again when I would normally shell out 40 odd quid on my Bullguard license to protect me for the next year but after reading though some stickys and reviews I think Bullguard is not only too expensive but also too resource hungry.

Sitting right now with Google Chrome running 8-10 open tabs im looking at Windows Task manager and i'll list all the Processes Bullguard has running.

Bullguard Scanner.exe 54,244K
Bullguard Behaviour Scanner.exe 12,988K
Bullguard.exe 11,880K
Bullguard Update.exe 4,365K

So add them all up for just one program I have essentially running and it seems like a lot of resources, about 83MB of memory right there.

I have run Bullguard for around 6 years now and havent had any problems with it, even had very good live support from them too. Just got me thinking is there something less memory intensive out there with as good a protection and CS possibly a bit cheaper, here is what I will be paying in 40 days form today if I were to stick with Bullguard.

I know its not a huge deal of memory but I cant help thinking its at the top of my Process list in Windows Task manager when im sitting doing nothing, at least I know its running!

So stick with Bullguard or jump ship?

OK Avast looks good, however I will probably go for the paid version as I often use online banking.

Can you tell me what OS your running and how much your Avast AV is taking up in Windows Task Manager

Just use free AV alongside a decent spyware/malware utility.

I find Microsoft Security Essentials, Spybot S+D and Malwarebytes to be a good combination.

I've had issues with Avast previously but Anti-Vir is pretty good and very light. I liked it that much that I had a 2 year subscription.

Is that Anti-Vir this one

Is this thread seriously judging some crappy free AV snakeoilware based upon its private working set memory usage?

OcUK Windows forum clearly decided it wanted a new low.

:D

But clearly the less memory the AV uses then the better it is! Because, erm... less!

It's a little harsh to suggest the free version of Avast is snakeoil given the number of peeps on this forum who use it.

Was going to say the same thing. My suggestion would be NOD32. Give the trial ago and see what you think. Second choice Kaspersky.
