Whenever she comes up in conversation, people seem to almost froth at the mouth with rage and hatred.

Now, I understand she tried the PollTax out on the Scots, closed some coal mines, and started privatising the railways, but apart from that why do people hate her with so much venom?

She was a brilliant leader, a strong woman, and seemed to forge a strong relationship with the US.

In addition, from what I can gather she didnt start any wars in the middle east either.

Compared to the feeble female morons who are in politics at the moment, Thatcher seems quite good!

Because she wanted to deregulate the banks but was knocked down by her own party, some guy called Gordon Brown brought it up as chancellor and used it as his claim to fame....I still wonder what the conversation was when he invited her to downing street just before the collapse!

One of the few politicians I respect.

Whether you agreed with her policies and how she achieved them or not - she was a strong, determined and principled leader. She stuck to what she believed in and pulled the country out of the mess it was in during the 70s.

I see the children are in the thread with their witty replies.

I would also like the answer to this even though I was an adult through that time.
I've never been political so I would like to know what the hate was.

I've always had great respect for her to be honest. Politically I think decisions she made were overall probably no better or worse than any other PM.
She did though have more character, along with many members of the cabinet at that time, than some of the current parties.
I also feel the same about Reagan. i think partly due to growing up in the 1980s they were 'my' politicians that coloured a big part of growing up. To think the Cold war was actually still on then too!

You're not supposed to feed the troll.

The OP answered his own question btw. Anyone I've asked said they dislike her due to the mining stuff.

That pretty much sums up my views. Regardless of whether you agree with her policies she was a strong and determined leader. Personally I feel she left the country in a far better position than when she became PM.
