***OcUK Karting Meet - Saturday 10th March 2012***

I've just moved house and I've recently started a new job whereby I could be called to any of our EMEA offices at reasonably short notice. I've got a strong chance of being in Finland on this weekend. Those two combined with the attitude of the organiser make me not want to risk it. The same attitude makes me want to try and transfer my space to someone else so random snacking isn't paid for by the unfortunate.

Besides, what exactly has this thread got to do with you skillmeister?

I enjoy meddling in other peoples business obviously. Or more like i was thinking of coming to spectate and am somewhere off the bottom of the reserve list incase no one else could fill a spot.

What's your problem with me posting here BRX? It's an open discussion.

So anyway................ :D

DRZ - Can you confirm if you are definitely NOT coming to this?

And no, it's not up to DRZ to decide who he 'sells' his space to. We have a reserve list:

1) Regy53
2) frozennova
3) Jamesy P
4) Conanius
5) Pate
6) secretspy
7) Thundycat

I suggest that the above people on the reserve list email me (either via Trust or my email address in my profile) and confirm if they would like to take DRZ's space by 12pm tomorrow.

The people who email me and confirm that they would like to go will be given the space in the order of their spot on the list. I will then reply to this person with my bank details and expect £77 payment by midnight tomorrow otherwise the space goes to the next person on the reserve list who has emailed me.

How does that sound? I can't think of a better way, so if anyone has any other suggestions then please let me know.

I think Mischief should provide some snacks and drinks anyway and give £20 back to DRZ as the spare spot will easily be filled. Even if the top two reserves don't go I know Princey has money flying out of ears so he'll probably go :p

I'll probably come and spectate aswell as I think I'm in Hoddesdon that day anyway.

Bloody hell guys, what's with the hostility? We're a friendly bunch who get along. Yes deposits are generally non-refundable however if someone can take DRZ's space then it should be in our good nature to refund him and the person taking the space should be encouraged to pay the full amount.
Surely you would hope that if you were in DRZ's situation you would expect/hope for the same? Come on, we're supposed to be a big bunch of mates!

EDIT - I've just checked the website Tina and it says up to 25 karts in any race, yet we've got 26 on the list....

Maccy we had a problem at one of the RR days before where so people showed up there were ment to run I think Rob had to ask the spec if they would run to make up the numbers.

Isn't this a bit more money compared to an RR day though? Sorry I genuinely don't know how much they cost!

For what it's worth, I think it's totally unreasonable not to give DRZ his deposit back, since there is a queue of people willing to fill his spot. The deposit is a commitment to the Karting company that they are going to get X amount of business, not to the OcUK group, who are free to organise things amongst themselves to make sure X amount of business does go the Karting companies way. As someone already said, it's 'supposed' to be all friends here, it's only business between the group and the Karting company, not between us (well you, since I am not involved in the Karting).

Tell me to mind my own if you wish, but that's my take on this situation. I will say no more about it though as I do not wish to be drawn into an argument that isn't even mine with anyone.

There's no arguing Moeks, and of course you and anyone else is entitled to their opinion.

When I arrange things I take deposits, and my view is if you back out then you lose that deposit. It means that hopefully I get people who will do their best to come. This may be deemed as too strict among "friends" and in some ways I agree. However if you're not strict people take the pee.

My opinions are not personal to DRZ, I would share the same view regardless of who it was. Organising stuff is a pain, so I would expect that those it is being arranged for should do their best to cooperate with the organiser and their ways of doing things.

Christ on bike there are some whining people about.
If you can't go then don't pay a deposit.
That's the whole point of a deposit.
It doesn't matter if MisChief spends it on hookers and beer or buys some bloody Jewellery with it, because it's no longer yours.
You accepted this when you laid it down as a NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT.
If you've now got your arse in your hand about it then don't pay any more, lose the £20 and move on.

All IMHO anyway.

Oh and I've Just paid the remaining £57 MisChief

and I hereby declare you can use it any way you see fit should I not be able to make it.

THAT is what being mates on here is all about, not squabbling over how it can and cannot be used.

I spoke to the people at the venue and they said it's ok to have 26, it's not a mistake don't worry!

Can you confirm what's going on with the deposit and I'll let you know what I'm going to do?
Yeah, it's going towards a new pair of shooooooes ;)

Why should myself or your replacement, go through the hassle of setting you up as a new payee in order to refund you your £20? Why is it OK for you to selfishly hold a space for so long and drop out a few days before the payment deadline? You moved houses/new job at the beginning of this month right? Why couldn't you let me know sooner?

And FYI, I don't pocket any money. I paid a £500 deposit to secure our booking. The venue now fully expects 26 people to attend, they expect the full payment from me and don't care who attends or not. If I cannot find a replacement, I still have to pay the full amount which means it's coming out of my own pocket. This is the risk I'm taking as the event organiser. I'm not even going to pocket your £20 deposit - this was going to go towards refreshments for everyone.

But anyway, thank you for appreciating all the effort and time I have put in to organise this event

It really doesn't bother me whether the £20 is refunded to you or goes towards refreshments for everyone else. But the fact that your attitude stinks makes me think I should keep hold of it just to annoy you even more :)

Anyway, perhaps we should all vote :D

Incidentally, Tina have you paid?
Nope I don't have to pay. The venue is giving my space for free as the event organiser.

Just give him his money back and someone else will pay the £20. It's took you up until now to say you are getting a free ride. You should have gave people the option of letting you kart for free or everyone gets a slight discount...

And threatening DRZ with his money just makes you look like a ****.
