The Falklands thread

Just what we needed, another war :-(

Chances are very very very slim of another conflict, the talk of military hardware in the area is a bit of a exaggeration (albeit interesting) over the actual situation. Since falklands 1 the argentine navy and airforce has been left to rot making a almost 0% chance they will try anything stupid.

Well when I say stupid I mean more stupid then there recent actions.

What this thread has tought me is that war is a giant game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Type 45 beats Argie aircraft & missiles, Trident beats Argie boats, Typhoon beats Argie everything else.

So I just have one question: why haven't they surrendered yet? :D

The MoD has made pathetic choice after pathetic choice with their "long" term plans.

[Wrong information sorry]

Of course the MoD has gotten a little more sensible since the last cabinet, but it doesn't mean that it cannot embarrass us further.

Next we'll be mounting Edinburgh castle guns onto the next destroyer, just cause we went bankrupt.

To be honest these rather expensive "brain over brawn" ships, are nothing more than a deterrent because if we lost even one of them, its a loss we really cant have, might as well just fit each ship with a self destruct protocol with a trident warhead, no one will want to touch it then.

when did that get anounced ???

It didn't..

Also, we're getting F-35C on our carriers. Which are by far the best out of the F-35 variants.

Nothing is set in stone, but so far I'd say it's looking fairly good given the lack of funds we have at our disposal.

Tennis courts... right...

Not so sure the f-35c is the best. Has poor performance and currently the wrestle hook does not work so it cannot land on deck!

Poor performance? source?

It has larger wings, so it can fly further, on less fuel, and carry a greater payload than the rest. I would hazard a guess that this also gives it better maneuverability, but not sure.

The arrestor hook is a problem yes, but that will soon be rectified. I read it's not that big a problem and should be fairly easy to get around. Hopefully that will prove correct. :)

F-35 in general seems to be hugely problematic though.

i believe a mothball and potential sale of the first carrier is being considered. remember we can share with the french and yanks if we ever need a carrier and ours is deep repair ;)

its frankly brilliant that we have switched from the F35B to the C, which EdGey states correctly is on paper a much better aircraft and cheaper and further down the production line but the f35 in general is facing some serious delays. its now the most expensive aircraft the US has ever produced i believe.

that said, we have little to no depth to our forces. there should have been 12 type 45's and we will only have one functional f35 squadron as the RAF is going to 6 squadrons of fast air once the tonka's kick the bucket.

First off cant see Falklands 2, secondly this is a economical war by Southern America. Any of the people on the Falklands will tell you that.

Lastly I've been trying to watch them build one of the carriers in Fife but they haven't put the top section on the ship yet :( But boy is the crane that's build it look BIG :D

I'm hoping that I can be there when it launches for its first sea trials as it will be a right beauty sailing down the forth.

Not only are we having to sell off the first carrier, thus having to wait extra time for the next one to finish, we couldn't even fit it with the planes we wanted, it would just be an empty ship, might as well just put a few tennis courts on it.

I'm not sure which source your information is coming from, but can I suggest that you crosscheck your opinions with reality before posting, otherwise it's just embarrassing.

Bashing a country’s defence program is one thing, bashing it whilst spurting out totally wrong and unfounded information is quite another.
