Huskies!

How long do they need exercising for each day? And would it be alright too have them say if I worked a 9-5 shift every day and spend most of the time at home with thwm and take them out for walks etc or go to a local park for an hour or so each day?

Gets two walk a day about 20 minute each time, morning and night, waits to be let out. Lovely dog though, calm and friendly. 8 months old and is fairly big now, this photo was taken about 1 month ago.

How can people only walk these dogs for 40 minutes a day? My collie spaniel cross got three walks a day averaging just over two hours in total.

thats 2 of mines whites the male and the brown white the female both dogs live outside all year round, they get run thru the winter time and take it easy in the summertime require lots of work and exercise, neglect them and they will destroy anything out of boredom but they are amazing dogs if treated properly :)

Guess it depends if you have two hours of free time per day to walk them. If you don't I guess huskies might not be the best dog to have - I think they're lovely but would never have one.

I've got a Greyhound/Saluki cross, she goes out twice a day, we live near a park which takes about 5 mins to walk to, she runs round in a circle like a crazy loon for about 10 minutes then sleeps the rest of the day :D

I'm not really an animal lover tbh, but IMO if you can only spare 30mins a day for walks, you shouldn't get an animal that requires more than that. It's unfair to keep it cooped up inside all day.

Obviously it's a given that any proper dog needs lots of time for exercise and walking any dog off a lead is quite frankly a liability that I would avoid regardless of breed. Experiences with rat dogs like Chihuahuas or Pomeranians may be different though.

But I would probably recommend a GSD as a dog with a similar style of aesthetics for a first time owner due to ease of training.

I saw these dogs many years ago and I am not sure what breed it is, I believe it is related to the husky family? I suck with dog breeds so if anyone knows please let me know as I would like to look into them as I would like a dog myself. :)

Some woman round this way goes jogging with 2 Huskies tied to some belt that goes round her batty like a mini harness.
Can't think why I noticed.

This is Foxie:

Looks exactly like my husky Kira, though her nose marking is black whereas Foxies is greyer :)

I've noticed most of the huskies in this thread have harnesses, i would have thought that would give them more strength for pulling? Kira can already pull me if she so chooses and I'm not exactly a skinny wee guy, is there a particular reason for the harnesses or is it just personal preference?

harnesses are better due to the fact if you think of the amount of fur around there neck its extremely easy for them to slip there collar as mine have done many a time in the past hence me moving to harness or pinch collars

best collars to get at bjorkis. the small problem is no one in the uk stocks them and the company doesnt seem to reply to emails even though they have a international sales email addy :S
