Middle Lane Hogs

I’m not bothered about them and there is no point in getting any rage. Overtake, drift across back into the slow lane and disappear at a vast rate of knots. Then have a chuckle as they are still sitting in the middle lane.

That's fine, until the idiots are bumbling along in the outside lane of a 2 lane DCW and either refuse to move over, or are utterly oblivious of anything behind them. I don't think twice about going past on the inside these days (though always check for plod first).

I have been known to level with them in the slow lane, wait for the look of disgust, back off move to lane 3 behind them, then belt past all guns blazing. The move back to the slow lane.

Depending on how slowly they are driving I wonder if you'd have a case arguing them to be either queueing or slow moving traffic and therefore undertaking would not be a case for the police to be interested in - I don't think I'd want to be the person to test that but it's maybe an argument to have.

while the irrates me greatly, its significantly better than undertaking. Saw a very close miss last week where someone undertook a middle lane hogger at speed who was obviously shocked and violently swerved into outside lane - which was thankfully empty.
Could have been nasty - and for no reason other than to make a point.

Annoys me immensely.

I'm pretty sure if people used the left-most clear lane at all times the road network in this country wounldn't need any widening.

Case in point being the 4 lane stretch of the M25 - no motherlover uses lane 2! Ever!

I get my wang out and punish myself for their stupidity.

But seriously, I do pretty much what the OP does, flash them and glare at them :D

Taking it to the next level. When on blue lights, most of them still don't move over, in fact the amount of people who are surprised and then do a jerk reaction/manoeuvre just as you pass them is unbelievable.

I was on the motorway a couple of weeks ago and an ambulance was coming up behind in the outside lane, i moved over into the middle lane, as did most other cars apart from a little Micra being driven by an elderly couple. It took them a while to realise it was behind them (it couldn't get round due to sheer volume of traffic) and then when they did realise, just slammed on the brakes, I couldn't believe it.

Too many of them on the M27 in the morning. Normally its the executive types who want to stick to cruise control, even if it means holding up everyone else.

I undertake them. I know I'm not really supposed to, but I do anyway. Either that or I sweep all the way from lane 1 to lane 3 and then back across in one motion.

How do these people get through life and manage to afford such luxury vehicles.

You actually asked that?

Simple, rich husbands who buy them pretty cars to keep them sweet and not asking for their credit card every weekend.

And yes, the right lane should be for people who want to/can afford to drive fast, they should make UK motorways unrestricted anyway. People will drive at whatever speed they feel comfortable at, whether its 30, 50, 70 or 100

If I can, i'll come up to them in Lane 1, indicate then move into Lane 3, then indicate back into Lane 1. They normally get the idea :)

^ I'll do that if I can be arsed. Usually I just undertake them.

If there's space for me to undertake, then they shouldn't be in the middle/right hand lane.

Sorry thats me .... oops but then again i wouldnt say my Yaris which i drive an executive type :P

I personally hate ppl undertaking me though. Not that bothered if anyone hogs the middle lane , i just overtake on the fast lane

I definitely don't undertake them. If they are the sort of wally to hog the middle lane they are probably the sort of wally to pull over without checking their inside mirror / blind spot, especially as you assume that people aren't going to be undertaking - I'm not risking that.

Generally I'm relaxed about it and just continue by in lane one. No one ever seems to move in after I've gone past.

Occasionally, depending on mood, I'll use the PIT manoeuvre.

Go past in the outside lane then move into the first lane if the road is quiet most of the time. However occasionally I'll just undertake them. The latter usually happens when lane 3 is just a huge queue of cars slowly crawling past the lane hog...

As a general rule I'll often stay in the 2nd lane though unless there are a lot of cars coming up behind me, depends what else is on the road. Always make an effort to make sure I'm not holding people up - generally it's only those sitting at over a tonne that I have going past me anyway :p

Lane 1 to 3? What the hell? :p

Inside lane, middle lane, outside lane!

Always used to confuse me that the lane on the outside of the motorway was actually the inside lane.
