The Stoke-On-Trent Thread

I moved to the area about 4 months ago.

Well to cheserton which is in Newcastle under lyme.

I'm originally from Wolverhampton. I moved to Stafford due to working at OcUK - when I first started I was driving 120miles a day.

Then recently I have moved even closer to OcUK.

I find that most of the areas are terrible, and just look ugly. I have not found a nice area yet with nice large houses. Im fed up of looking at Terraced houses.

My ex was from castle 2 things

stoke is no differnt to most towns and city now , they are all run down and full of cheap kebab shops. Trust me if you think stoke is bad come to warrington its like the arse end of the world .

Likewise, I live in ST5 next door to S-o-T. Whereabouts in ST5?

Born and raised in the Westlands until I moved out a couple of years ago into an apartment right by the middle of castle, near to the new sainsburys. Where abouts are you?

Granted the likes of Chess/Knutton/Silverdale are primarily made up of terraced houses but the Westlands/Audley/Madeley etc are nice.

To be honest having been to most cities and towns in the UK, Stoke is far from the worst you will see.

Yes we have our poor area's and there is a lot of regeneration to be done - remember we had our whole pottery industry wiped out which we are still recovering from and have also had promise after promise broken by the city council.

It really didn't seem like too bad a place when I visited the ex's family a few times. No different to any other city anyway. Her parents lived in Blythe Bridge I think it was called.

I am off for a week guys, what shall I do in Stoke!?

I want to do some fun things which do not involve a lot of money.

Born in Walsall (!) and lived most of my life there, but moved here to be closer to my wires family and to get a decent school for my lads.

When all's said and done, Stoke's got its issues much like any town or area has; there's good and bad bits. I've never had any issues with the people here, they've been very welcoming and I've had no problems even in the 'rougher' parts. I guess it's what you're used to, Walsall's hardly the heights of living (despite what some will try to convince you) and so being close to Stoke is no different really.

What's the ST5 area like, particularly Bradwell and Porthill? Seen a few house around there which seem nice but the general area seems to be a quite mixed. Some nice leafy streets then lots of council semi's? I heard Wolstanton is rough too?

I work 4 days a week in Ches, the people there get pretty wound up if you refer to it as Stoke, almost as if they think Newcastle is superior to Stoke, although they all support Stoke City. Newcastle is no better or worse than Oldham really, not that thats a great thing haha.

I commute about 55 miles each way to work, although I'll reduce that to about 45 each way when I move into Manchester. There's plenty of decent places within half an hour of Stoke or Newcastle though
