The Mobile World Congress 2012 thread

Releasing a Symbian phone is just a bizarre and completely pointless waste of time. Why bother.

WP7 is crippled by limited hardware/software and WP8 won't be shipping in devices for another year.

With Symbian they can use more powerful hardware to drive the camera (either with a separate encoder, like the N8, or a dual core SoC)

Apparently this is 1080p output from a developer phone.

Subscribed to this thread. I'm tasked with finding my other half a phone in a few months.

Was hoping for something from Samsung. I run the SGS I9000 and it's never put a foot wrong.

The latest round of pre-MWC rumors has Japanese manufacturer Fujitsu launching its own quad-core phone for Europe. According to UnwiredView, Fujitsu's mystery device will sport an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, and will be paired with a 4.6-inch screen and an impressive 13.1MP camera. Other notables supposedly include Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a fingerprint sensor and water and dust resistance.

According to today's reports, samples of the device will be on show at Mobile World Congress next week. If it's there, we'll bring you full coverage.

Interesting, using your fingerprint to unlock instead of faceunlock is way better and obviously works in the dark too. I know Moto has such a phone too but the water/dust features sound interesting too. I bet it's that nanoparticle tech that was shown ona demo SGS22 where the guy dipped it in a tub of water.

Who cares how good the camera is, it's Symbian thus going to fail hard.

someone who wants a good camera on their phone and isn't fussed about anything else probably.

I can't imagine anyone that would sacrifice a good OS just to get a really good camera, I certainly wouldn't as you use the phone 99% of the time and the camera the rest at best.

You are assuming everyone in the world uses their phone in the same way as you. There are plenty of people who want a great camera on their device. There are also many people who have no idea what a smartphone OS is.

I wouldn't go for it as i don't use the camera that much but there is certainly a market for high quality cameras on smartphones albeit a small one.

I just think its crazy to say 'well i dont use that feature so there's no point in them making it'. Yes it would be nice if it was on a WP device rather than symbian but then maybe this is a way for Nokia to keep making money from the platform while it's still going - making it a niche camera focused OS.

You're forgetting that people want apps, the whole reason ~75% of Blackberry users are wanting to switch is because they're unhappy with the service and the lack of apps according to the news I heard on the radio over the last few weeks. Symbian is even worse?

It's either Android or iOS, average joe doesn't know or care about anything else, he only knows "That HTC phone" or "the Samsung Galaxy" or "iPhone".

Weird - one handset looks like it has a lightly modded version of ICS and the other a full blown LG skin. I hope it doesn't release with the latter.
