wait - its not that much longer 2 months maybe max (well least we are told).

but if you bored then whatever ... can still get some decent dough for your 580

Are you thinking kepler will be released April/May time?

I hope so, perfecting timing if it is.

imo, the increase in performance of a 7950 over a GTX580 is negligible

first kepler card is strongly rumoured to be end of march (as in people are claiming to have seen cards / know they are in prodcution) but performance only slightly better than 580, however cards that will be a decent upgrade from a 580 (e.g. 680) are still rumoured to be end of year / Q3 at the earliest

are you having issues running a game at particular settings on the 580?

Nope. You shouldn't even upgrade from a 580 to a 7970 unless you specifically couldn't live without 3GB RAM for a day longer. Wait for something much better than the 580 before jumping ship.

no i have no problems running games at all as someone mentioned above i can get a few pennies of a mate and put the extra towards one....i noticed that the ati supports directx 11.1...aswell....a month or so will not make a difference really just like swapping and changing now and again .

The 580GTX supports opengl 4.1 whilst the 7970 doesn't. You'd gain absolutely nothing from "upgrading" your current card to a 7950 and a small upgrade going to a 7970. Pointless to be fair mate.

Wait for kepler.

actually the reason really is its on offer on the ocuk front page at a decent price thats the main reaso n i thought about upgrading lol

You should take a punt. Sell your GTX580 now, buy a 2nd card like a 5770 for £40-£50 and if Kepler comes out with GTX580+ performance (i.e. at least matches the 7950) at a lower price point you could have made yourself a tidy bundle.

not really, by the time you account for fees, postage etc., what you can get for the 580 now vs. what you'll get for it post kepler will be eaten up by the cheap card, fees etc.

Ask yourself this...do you think it would be smart for people to upgrade from 4850 to 4870, or 5850 to 5870...especially if they have to spend extra £100 after selling the old card? :p

The golden rule that I tend to follow is from Tomshardware, at least a three generation gap between GPU changes for good performance gains. But, if you like to change more often then that and budget is no problem then why not.

haha ya true - but we are dealing with computer nuts and we like things to go fast ...

you know what thats the best logical reason ive heard...even for future upgrades....but on that note i hate the way they change from direct x and a upgrade from direct x 11 to 11.1 is due by the looks.
